Single or double pump?

Hi all,
Just debating really whether to get a single or double electric pump. I’m 26 weeks so plenty of time to think about it but one friend has suggested a double whilst another said a single is fine. I’m sure it’s subjective, I just don’t want to waste money!

I plan to breastfeed mostly but express for some bottles for DP to do a night feed sometimes or if we go out on a day trip etc. What do you think?

I wish I'd bought a double pump! Especially one of those hands-free systems. It would take me an age to pump both boobs, but I'm not a great producer of milk. If your boobs work better than mine you might consider a double pump a waste of money. I think it's very difficult to know in advance. Sorry!

If you are going to buy one, definitely a double pump. Singles are a waste of time as it means it takes twice as long. But I'd say don't get one before baby is here. As pp said, you dont know how your bf journey is going to go. I ended up needing a hospital grade pump to help boost my supply and hired an amazing one for 6months, rather than spending £hundreds on one that wasn't suitable. The one i bought before birth ended up in a box as a "spare" and was probably only used a handful of times.

Honestly I bought a hospital grade pump and barely used it. I preferred the Medela hand pump - quicker and smaller so easy to carry and express anywhere. I breastfed for a year and pumped a lot at work. So for me the expensive pump was a waste, and I preferred the £24.99 hand pump.

It's something you can get later. If you need a pump in the earlier days (my baby was unwell for a little bit) the hospital provide one

If you want to breastfeed mainly and build up a stash for the occasional bottle feed you could also try a haaka silicon 'pump'. Essentially you suction onto one breast while baby feeds from the other. I loved it as I got so much more from it than an electric pump, and your sat feeding anyway so don't have to spend extra time pumping. They're super cheap too so with a try! But agree with PP need to wait until baby arrives and find what's best for you (you might find it's easier to breastfeed on days out than worry about keeping milk to temperature etc)
