Don't think it sounds "normal" but am no expert, you haven't just had a bath or anything, ie could not be bath water? Can you call your midwife? Best to be sure.

Carey87 · 05/03/2008 17:25

my midwifes are only available to call between 8am and 5pm. shit I know!

I would call your delivery unit and ask their advice.

Sayuri · 05/03/2008 17:29

You could call NHS direct and ask

Egg · 05/03/2008 17:33

There will be a duty midwife on call at the hospital. I had to call at about 30 weeks pg with dizzy spells and headaches and it was out of hours. Just call your hospital and ask for labour ward, then ask for duty midwife. You will only worry all night otherwise.

Any more leakage?

AussieSim · 05/03/2008 17:33

Can you call the midwives at the hospital you are booked into? With DS1 my waters went at 35 weeks - and not in a big gush. It would be best to get examined if you can as if it is the start of labour they may be able to hold it off for a bit so long as baby is not in distress. If it is not your waters IME with DS2 it can still signal that labour may be just a few days away. Don't worry about 'inconveniencing' others, just look out for bub and yourself.

Carey87 · 05/03/2008 17:42

just rang nhs and they were lovely! told me to speak to labour ward just in case. They have told me to come in

just waiting for hubby to get home (10 mins!)

i just dont want to feel like a prat if they say 'oh it was only a bit of discharge!'

Oh good luck you have the right thing. As others have said, imagine if this is the start of things, you do want to be in the right place! Let us know how you get on .

FrannyandZooey · 05/03/2008 17:48

Carey the same thing happened to me and I went in and it WAS just a bit of discharge
I felt a fool but they were lovely about it and said it was right to come in

I hope all is well

TheFallenMadonna · 05/03/2008 17:50

Oh me too. and there was another woman there at the same time for the same reason.

Good luck!

Egg · 05/03/2008 17:51

And let's face it, apart from the small embarassment, it is better that it is discharge, as it means your baby is not coming 7 weeks early and you can cook it a bit more!

MissingMyHeels · 05/03/2008 17:52

I had a similar thing at about 30 weeks, I had soaked my knickers and was convinced it couldn't be discharge. Turns out it was a thrush type infection and I did feel a bit silly but it was worth getting checked as they gave me a pessary etc and were lovely about it!

They will probably ask you to put on a pad so if you have one at home you could save yourself a 30 min wait when you get there and put one in now.

Good luck!

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 09:52

Thank you all for your advice last night.

Went to the hospital and they were lovely.

They out two monitor thingy's on stomach (one for heart and one for movement???) and all was fine. Apparently I was having mild contractions [hmmm] not that I could feel them! and baby's heart rate shot up to 197 at one point and stayed at around there for 7 minutes at which point many nurses rushed in but then settled back down again to an average of 145 at which point they all laughed and giggled (this is while I have my legs wide open and fanjo on display and hubby is fast asleep in the chair!!!)

Egg · 06/03/2008 10:30

ooh so are you back home safely? Do they think things might happen soon if you were having mild contractions? What did they say about the leak? Glad all is ok .

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 10:43

They said it was a build up of fluid up there and that baby must have moved and hence the reason it came gushing out but to keep an eye on it and that baby might possiby make an early appearance but they didnt think in the next couple of weeks.

They asked if I thought it could be wee and I said no way, at which point hubby piped up and said 'how do you know? It all comes out the same hole'.

I have never laughed so much in my life!!!!

It made a nice ending to a worrying evening!!!

carey87, same thing happened to me, stupid receptionist at midwives said "oooh i think you're in labour"..i nearly crapped myself as i was only 30 wks that day! spoke to midwife who said "put maternity pad in your pants, if it's your waters breaking the pad wil become saturated over next two hours...call me back if this happens and ignore the receptionist". everything was fine. this was two weeks ago.

just resd what your husband said - LOL!

Egg · 06/03/2008 11:00

Hmm, I think your hubby needs to go back to school and learn basic biology . Hehe!

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 11:01

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 15:11

A friend in France had loads of probs from early on she had this happen at about 34 weeks (to be honest we were ready for a delivery from 28 weeks she was on bed rest from then to 36 weeks and having contractions on and off all the time) she was in Hossy with everyone thinking it was imminent but no there little one held on till after 36 weeks and that was with a little bit of help from her hubby if you know what I mean ;)

WorzselMummage · 06/03/2008 19:27

My waters went fully at 30 weeks and i didnt go in to labour for 10 days, they pumped me full of steroids and antibiotics and i had to stay in hospital but it was fine, DDs 3 now and perfect. She was born at 32+2 a bit squashed from having no water but is as any normal 3 year old should be. If your waters do go it more than likely wouldnt be a problem anyway now at 34 weeks

Good Luck

I've had discharge that has soaked my knickers all the way through this pregnancy. Phoned DAU at local hospital to ask whether it could be the sac and they assured me it wasn't.

As long as it is normal colour and no blood et and doesn't smell, then it should be part and parcel of the pregnancy - this is what I was told.
