Nausea ALL day everyday- could it be twins?

This is my second pregnancy, and I am currently seven weeks and five days.

With my DD I had nausea in the morning, but it would usually go after an hour of being up, so this feeling is really new to me!

I have nausea all day every day. I even wake up in the night feeling sick. Water makes me feel unwell and so do most foods, so keeping it very bland!

I called the doctors today and they have prescribed me anti-sickness medicine. However, when I was speaking to the doctor, he very casually said 'no two pregnancies are the same and often sickness is worse if you're having twins.'

So now I'm thinking, could I be having twins? Or can all day sickness also happen for single pregnancies? My husband has twins his side, however, it's his cousins who were through IVF- which I understand is common to have twins. I have twins my side, but they are my uncles and in all honesty, my Nan had nine children, so probability wise she was most likely to have twins at some point Grin

Has anyone else had experience of all day nausea, and not had twins ???

In my first pregnancy I was nauseous and sick every day of it. Second pregnancy barely sick at all and never nauseous. Both singleton girls. Always possible though

I never knew you could request anti sickness meds for pregnancy - is this just if you have HG?

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 26/09/2023 14:59

I'm pregnant with my first and I asked them to double check definitely not twins as I was so sick I was convinced it must be. I lost over a stone in first trimester, and the nausea was constant. The nausea even woke me up if I tried to nap to get away from feeling like shit.

They say more likely with twins - single baby
They say more likely with a girl - 3 scans have shown this baby is a boy!

There's old wives tales but don't mean anything. A lot of people I know have had worse nausea with their second though irregardless of what they're having.

@fr4zzledmum, I’m not in the UK, but got prescribed (might even be OTC) Cariban, mild antiemetic, probably nothing like what they would give you for HE

*HG

In any case, I would ask if there’s something, whilst not a medical emergency, constant nausea is so debilitating, I’m not sure I would have been able to go to work without it had I needed to.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 26/09/2023 15:17

@fr4zzledmum I wasn't HG as I kept liquid down. I was prescribed anti-sickness when I rang the GP and told them I hadn't been able to keep any food down for 2 days. Even with the meds I lost over a stone and didn't reach pre-pregnancy weight again until 3rd trimester. Just because it isn't HG doesn't mean you don't need medical help.

Same here

No I wasn't insinuating that you shouldn't get meds, just didn't know they were available.

I presume they'd only be prescribed for people being actively sick though? I was so so nauseous for the first couple of months constantly, but only sick a couple.pf times. Almost made me feel worse as it wasn't a 'productive' nausea.

I'm TTC for number 2 at the minute, so would be handy to know if I felt horrendous again.

Doesn't matter if its productive, I was rarely actually sick because I couldn't get it all the way down! Smell made me retch, if I tried to make myself eat it was like my stomach would close itself off and I'd regurgitate it back up instantly. Lots and lots of retching without actually bringing anything up (not like anything really got in there). I was actually sick a few times, but I don't see much a difference - if there's no food being kept in there's no food being kept in, be that because it comes back up or you can't get it in in the first place.

I had all day nausea for weeks and weeks and weeks....was horrendous. Thought it was twins but it was just a single pregnancy. Then I thought it was girl because apparently it's worse with girls....it was a boy 😂.
Got prescribed cyclizine and it did nothing.

SparkyBlue · 26/09/2023 15:43

I was beyond miserable on my third pregnancy. Meds didn't help at all and only one baby in there

Yarnle · 26/09/2023 16:57

Nauseous all the way through from week 5 to now at week 33 and still going strong. Singleton pregnancy 🙃. You can absolutely have HG without vomiting, if it’s affecting your daily life and activity it’s definitely HG!

thetrainatplatform4 · 26/09/2023 17:10

I had twins and never felt any nausea at all - no morning sickness - nothing 😂

JessicaPeach · 26/09/2023 19:47

I was much worse with my twins than with my singleton.

So does your mum have twin brothers? If they are non identical then I think that definitely counts. The ability to release two eggs carries down the maternal line so if your nan could do it on your mums side then you might be able to too.

muchalover · 26/09/2023 19:52

For all four of my single pregnancies I had "morning sickness" 24 hours a day until the day I gave birth.

I always lost a huge amount of weight during pregnancy and my notes that I still have records my weight as being exactly the same as I went through my pregnancy. My babies were healthy weight ranges.
