Changing Doctor's Surgery?

Hi, I recently found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant. We moved to where we are now 10 months ago but I am still registered at a doctor's surgery in my hometown (7 miles away). I hadn't changed doctors due to very rarely going and being comfortable there, having been registered there all my life.

Will I need to change surgery? If so, do I need to change before starting the process of alerting them to my pregnancy? Or would I get the ball rolling with them so to speak and transfer over?

Sorry for the naive question. I would ask my mum normally but don't want to mention the pregnancy so early just in case. Thank you.

Look around for local gps to see what one you would like to join. Some gps may have waiting lists.

In my area, gps can only accept new patients at certain times of the year. I was only able to change once I hd my baby and I registered her with the gp I wanted and got moved over so we were together.

Once you’ve made contact with the new gp practice that you like, find out the application process and ask how long it will take to join.
If it’s quick and just an application then you could always hold off letting them know about the pregnancy until you’re a patient.
If it’s a long process then contact your current gp practice. I imagine they will encourage you to self refer to your local midwives but you’ll need to Inform your gp you’ve moved to get the most local midwife number.

Yes you need to change surgery, you will be out if catchment for your original GP and they may automatically deregister you

I moved area just after finding out I was pregnant and resisted with a local gp surgery whilst also registering my pregnancy with them. Best way to do it as you’ll then be registered with a local midwife which is necessary as they do home calls for some appointments.

Just call the new surgery. Tell them you're pregnant and need to register after moving. Easy. They'll tell you what to do, probably fill in a form and then they'll book you in for an appt.
