Panicking about ‘low’ blood pressure

Been for my 31 week appt today and told that I have low blood pressure - 88/50. I had an awful night with DS2 and been up since 230 so I’m utterly exhausted (he never sleeps it’s not a one off) so put it down to that but she also couldn’t get the monitor under my sleeve and I was lying down when she did it so surely it’s not accurate? She said she wasn’t concerned but my normal is 110/75

has anyone else had smilie? Thank you

Don't panic if your midwife isn't worried. I'm not sure what it is that you're worried about but hopefully it'll reassure you to know that I have low blood pressure (both when pregnant and not). My current measurements (whilst 36 weeks pregnant) are very similar to your 88/50 and no one has raised any concerns. If you're that concerned you could always call triage to discuss it with them for reassurance.

Mine was the same. Not a problem. Far better to have low blood pressure than high!

Do you have low blood pressure symptoms such as light headedness or fatigue?
If your midwife is not worried then don't think it's a cause for concern. Make sure you're well hydrated (do you track fluid intake, v easy to not drink enough when pregnant)
All the best

If low blood pressure isn’t your normal, maybe get GP or midwife to retest it another day to see if is a one off. Can also buy devices you can use at home to measure low blood pressure.

If you do have low pressure, I’ve always have low blood pressure, and it’s dropped even more in pregnancy and I was struggling with fatigue and dizziness so I was recommended by midwife and GP a diet of healthy complex carbs and to up my salt intake (just add extra salt when cooking and salted crisps are always good when on the go). Drink plenty of liquids, especially if going for high salt diet. My blood pressure always drops more when I’m hungry so I eat smaller meals more regularly and have healthy snacks in between to try and keep it from dipping. I’ve been advised from opting for an epidural as it can drop blood pressure further but if I really need one for the pain they can monitor it and give me stuff to try and counter act the drop.

I had low blood pressure in my first pregnancy, midwife wasn’t concerned she just said the biggest thing to worry about is feeling lightheaded or fainting when standing up
