2+ PROTEIN IN URINE 22 WEEKS!!

Morning ladies,

I am 22+3 weeks pregnant and first pregnancy.

I am here looking for some guidance or maybe somebody to share their personal experiences with me please as I am worried sick.

I went into triage last night following some abdominal pain (luckily the pain did not seem to be anything preg related) but they also did some swabs, check if my cervix was closed (was) and a urine sample. My urine sample was tested and came back 2+ for protein.

My blood pressure was slightly increased than my last appointment but they said it wasn't abnormal.
They were going to send my urine and swabs off to the lab for proper testing and so the actual mg of protein could be measured.

I don't think this is a UTI as I haven't had pain in the usual places I would when I have a UTI and I only need the toilet as normal. The doctor did mention a possible sign for pre eclampsia and to be honest at this stage is has me absolutely worried sick incase it is this brewing or already there.

What is the likelihood of it being pre eclampsia at this stage in the 2nd trimester? If it is, what would the result be? Is the pregnancy likely to carry on healthy with monitoring or should I worry?

Thanks ladies!

Sorry I’ve got no experience of pre-eclampsia but my BP has been increased since 12 weeks, now nearly 29w, so they’re keeping an eye on me for developing PE.

I have to take my BP at home once a week and dip my urine every 2 weeks. I’ve been told that if the BP is controlled then there’s no reason why the pregnancy can’t carry on as normal.

But it is normally after 20 weeks that symptoms start to show, so it’s definitely a possibility. Try not to worry about it, I’m sure you’ll know more once your urine is back from the lab!
