First pregnancy in the UK. What do I do?

So I have just found out I'm pregnant. Not the first baby but it will be the first pregnancy in England. I'm not very experienced with local medicine. What do I do now? Who do I tell and when?
Don't want to ask anyone I know as it is too early to disclose.
I'm on NHS.

Ring your GP, they will refer you to your local midwife service. Not much happens until your 13 week scan (you need to buy your own folic acid etc in the meantime). You’ll have a booking in appointment with your midwife around the same time as the scan (think it is meant to be at 10 weeks, but mine was a couple of weeks after the scan).

Ring your doctors surgery and they will give you a contact for the midwives. You will then have a ‘booking appointment’ to go through your medical history etc and then you get your first NHS scan at 12 weeks followed by a second at 20 weeks (assuming you have a ‘normal’ pregnancy). There are also lots of private clinics that you can have early scans at. Congrats!

In our area you self refer to the midwife, but not until 7 weeks pregnant.

Congratulations! In our area, you google the name of the hospital where you want to give birth + maternity and there will be instructions on how to self-refer. Usually an online form to fill in. You'll then be in the system and should get a booking appointment (for us, it's around 8-10w) and a scan at around 12w. Other areas do it slightly differently. At the booking appointment, the midwife will then talk you through what happens next, how often your appointments are etc,.

Hello, Congratulations. When I found out i was pregnant I phoned my local midwives to register with them and they should go through some things with you and then set you up on the maternity app, this is where you will get all your appointments listed on and your maternity records, they may even book your first appointment on the phone.

Call your GP surgery and they will tell you what to do. Congratulations!

Thank you so much! I will wait for 7 weeks and then give them a call

Don’t wait ‘til you are 7 weeks, unless that is your area’s practice. Whilst they won’t see you until 8 weeks, they’ll give you the earliest appointment possible and if you delay you’ll be at the back of the queue!

And congratulations 🥳
