Help with symptoms

I’ve just found out that I’m pregnant so literally only 4 weeks and am feeling really horrible today - mainly a headache and feeling shivery and a bit sick. I was always prone to headaches and migraines previously and from what I’ve read, this can mean more frequent headaches during pregnancy.

Can I do anything or take anything to help myself? We won’t be telling anyone for a while so I don’t have anyone to ask in real life, hoping others have experienced similar and have some useful tips. I’m assuming these are pregnancy symptoms but equally they could just be the start of a cold (or even covid)?

Can symptoms start this early? Do symptoms come and go? I’m worried about work tomorrow if I wake up feeling the same as I do now.

You can take paracetamol can’t you?

congratulations!

I was very headachey in early pregnancy. Those forehead stick things you rub on your head really helped. Staying well hydrated - I went through loads of ice cold water & ice lollies. Lots & lots of rest (never stand when you could be sitting, never sit when you could be lying down). Speak to a midwife if you’re worried. And congratulations!

Congratulations! I’m in a similar situation, 4+1 and only found out on Thursday but the nausea started pretty badly Friday night and I’ve had 3 naps today and ready for bed again now!

You can take paracetamol on its own but things like Lemsip, Beechams etc aren’t advised. There’s also things like peppermint balm that you can rub on your temples and that sometimes lifts a headache.

Not much help for relief here but I was diagnosed with migraines, chronic tension headaches, cluster headaches and medication induced headaches. I suffered bad from age 6 and was allowed naps at school etc it was so so bad. Pregnancy started abit headachy but actually almost cured my migraines! I now only get them a few times a year rather than a few times a week. Fingers crossed for you, that you get the positive outcome too! I was so scared pregnancy and having a newborn was going to make it all 10x worse but he's 5 now and still so much better than before I was pregnant with him. I was trialled on so many meds and things but apparently pregnancy did the trick for me 😅.

Btw, eat small and regular and stay hydrated, massively important in pregnancy and migraine sufferers separately, let alone combined x

Thanks all, managed to sleep and feeling slightly better now. Good to know on the paracetamol and fingers crossed the headaches/ migraines improve as time goes on like they did for you @Ttcmumma!
