Tall maternity clothes!

I had terrible trouble finding maternity trousers that were long enough when I was pregnant and ended up having to make do with my usual trousers for as long as possible, then switch to very stretchy ones that still fit under my bump. And also it was over summer so I could get away with normal size maternity crop trousers.

I got really fed up with suppliers offering 'tall sizes' only to find they only meant 33". I needed 34"/35" which I couldn't find anywhere. Long Tall Sally only offered two styles and the stock doesn't come in very often and is limited in number - and now they only do maternity jeans so you can't get work trousers!

So I'm in the process of looking into setting up a UK internet shop with fashionable maternity trousers in the lengths 34", 35" and 36". I wanted to see if any of you tall mums out there think this would be useful (did you have the same trouble) and what sort of styles you'd like to see?

Great idea, had terrible trouble finding trousers for my 35" inside leg during pregnancy.
For those in urgent need I was pleasantly chuffed that red herring maternity jeans (in long) fit really well but the rest of the time it was maternity skirts and knee high boots at work in the colder months!

I really found the belly bands useful in the early months - when I could get away with still wearing my Dorothy Perkins & Topshop tall low rise trousers - they are great for layering & stopped me feeling like a trucker with my gut hanging out. Also great for support & layering, a must have!

Good luck!

What a fantastic idea. I too need 34-35 inch length and unfortunately due to awful varicose veins I can't get away with cropped trousers in the summer. I'd love to see some cool linen trousers, some black smart ones for either office or party wear and combats and jeans obviously. I don't know about other mums but I prefer under the bump waistbands as others don't seem as comfortable and also you get ridges through your tops where the waistbands show through. We like to look sleek even though we are rotund!
I have just been searching (again in vain) for some long linen trousers to wear to a special summer party and yet again there is nothing longer than 33 inch. So depressing at a time when you really need clothes that make the most of what you've got (at 7 months I want to float in lengths of fabric not waddle in half masts).
Good luck.

Hello,
Please, oh, please set up your shop and soon! I am 6 foot and am really struggling. It's not just trousers for me, but tops too - I really don't want to flash my bump at everyone!

beanpolebumps is up and running now. also found that she's got an ebay user id under beanpolebumps.

chonky · 21/06/2008 10:07

Brilliant idea - much relieved as was wondering what I'd do in future pregnancies. My black LTS work trousers were loaned to a fellow big bird, I very much doubt having done two pregnancies that they'd be looking too 'corporate' now

Will take a look.

twinklytoes · 21/06/2008 21:10

have also bought blouses from H&M and Red Herring (debenhams) today and they are certainly long enough too.

H&M have also got over bump linen trousers that seem to sit at 34in leg too. £20 in khaki and brown.

its kinda refreshing to hear so many tall pregnant ladies with the exact same problem as me!!! im 6ft2 and having my second baby.

i was big in the summer with my first baby so i got away with cropped and 3/4 lengths, this baby is due in dec so am i supposed to freeze and wear a skirt...i hope not.

im also a slightly larger lady too, so double the problems.

please someone set up a shop so i can order some jeans for winter in a 38 leg!! is that so much to ask.

im 17 week now and still managing to wear my normal clothes (im being very sensible with calorie intake this time) but the waist band is starting to dig in a wee bit!!

any one have any ideas??

twinklytoes · 04/07/2008 20:08

have found these but they are rather expensive and still only 36in.

keep an eye on ebay too LTS mat jeans and their on epair black trousers tend to appear now and again but then think they were 36in max too.

do you own a pair of knee length black boots? could wear those with cropped trousers or skirts come winter???

nimnom · 05/07/2008 17:27

Sorry to gatecrash this thread but I was looking for Twinklytoes - I've left a message for you re:pram on my thread.

Beanpolebumps · 17/07/2008 13:12

Yes, sorry everyone - am up and running!!

I occasionally put things on ebay too - well spotted twinklytoes! For some reason I stopped getting updates from this thread and didn't realise it was still going on.

Big news though - am in talks to have my own range made which will be as reasonably priced as possible and which will change with the seasons (wouldn't that be nice!) and cover the gaps in the styles I've already found!

Won't be for a couple of months yet but am still on that mission to help out tall/long-legged or bodied pregnant women so thanks for all your support and comments.

Any progress on this?? Have got a 35" inside leg and like many of you, survived pg1 in skirts and 3/4's!

Am ttc#2 now and would like to be able to wear
heels next time

Beanpolebumps · 17/01/2009 12:33

Yes, there is progress! I've been stocking lots of trousers/tops/pyjamas for several months now (Noppies, 1 in the Oven, RG) that are all 34 - 37" inseams.

However, big news is that I have received samples of my own Beanpole Bumps range and they will be going into production any day - should be with me by the end of February/early March.

To start with there will be black cotton trousers (36" length) suitable for work or smart social and some steel grey jogger type trousers (36" length) for comfy wear, yoga etc. Some more black trousers for work to follow after that!

So if there's anything else you'd particularly like to see you can submit suggestions through my website 'Contact' page. Thanks!

A big thank you to Beanpole Bumps for their fabulous range of tall maternity wear!! I bought some gorgeous trousers as a present from there recently, and my friend is so grateful that she can wear something other than skirts whilst pregnant!!

tallchic · 09/04/2009 02:04

Thank you for this thread! Finding long length pants and jeans was such a drama for my first two pregnancies. I have just bought some 38" inseam pants and jeans from Barefoot Maternity (I noticed they have up to 40" for all you really tall girls, you just select your inseam measurement from a dropdown menu like you would your size).
The pants are a straight leg style and plain but they fit well, the jeans a bootleg style. Both are underbelly, can be adjusted but the best thing of all is they are long enough!! What a relief.

dueinjune · 27/04/2009 20:31

Hi Girls

I got some really flattering trousers by Mummy Long Legz. They do a 35" an 37" leg length and they have a few different styles. Their website is www.mummylonglegz.co.uk.

There is a link below to a shop on Ebay selling their stuff.

stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/All-Legs-No-Trousers

Hope this helps someone

dueinjune · 27/04/2009 20:34

Poppity · 27/04/2009 21:21

Brilliant idea- very much needed.
I prefered over bump too, but actually the thing I really yearn for when pregnant is something which I can hide under from top to toe with nothing around my belly!
There is a real lack of tall jumpsuit/dungarees, and long dresses, here's hoping you're going to change all that!
