NHS Maternity Pay

Hi,

I have just received my breakdown of pay that I will be having on maternity.
I understand that contributions are taken but what percentage of pension will be taken?

I currently have 9.8% of my earnings taken as pension. Is this still the same on maternity leave?

Or will it be less as my gross maternity salary is significantly less than what I earn normally - and if calculated right I would be paying 6.5%.

Thanks in advance.

For reference I am a band 6 nurse at the top of my band working 30 hours. I don't do weekends or evenings etc

It'll be 9.8%. It's the same percentage as you're paying immediately before you go on maternity leave, doesn't change with the mat leave salary drop unfortunately!

And the RCN don't reduce your contributions either, I asked. Which seems highly unlikely fair to me, they could freeze the subs for a year surely.

I was top band 6 for my last mat leave and doing roughly same hours as you. Just had a look at my old payslips and paid the full amount of pension throughout my maternity pay.

Hi @twirlsandwhirls , I know this is an old post but I am a top band 6 on 30 hours also and I'm trying to work out what my maternity pay will be. I'm hoping to take 12 months but I was just wondering if you found the payments to be a lot less than expected? I'm trying to work out the calculations with payroll but they cannot give me the deductions after tax/pension? Thank you so much:)
