Anyone at 3rd trimester with gestational diabetes?! How are you maintaining your blood sugar level?

Had it more than 16 years ago with dd.
I was on insulin so found it reasonably easy to maintain. Also learnt not to test too soon after evening meal.
Are you on medication or diet?
Got to say dd was born at 22.02 on the wed, by 8am the Thurs when I was tested blood sugars were completely back to normal.

There’s a great website and Facebook group called gestational diabetes uk. They have good pointers on eating

Zerin123 · 22/09/2023 19:56

@Rowgtfc72 I am currently on diet and monitoring my blood glucose, if it’s more than 180mg/dl (after meal) I might have to take insulin 😭

@Mintearo7 oh thanks! I’ll look into it.

32 weeks and diet controlled so far. My bloods seem to be fine.

I came on just to say about the website and Facebook page! But @Mintearo7 beat me to it!
This was invaluable to me!

@Zerin123 insulin wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. The worst part is the finger prick. I found the insulin needle itself painless. We tried diet control for a fortnight but as I was overweight and 34 they didn't want to hang about. It was much easier to control my GD with the insulin.
Dd was induced at 37 weeks. Gd was a factor but more so my age and weight. She spent 3 days in a hot cot and was a little jaundiced, but then she was early.
Diabetes is in my family. I'm still overweight but at nearly 52 have had no more issues with diabetes

I’m diet-controlled at the moment, and hoping it stays that way 🤞🏻

Lots of recipe ideas on the GD UK site, and the Facebook group is really supportive too.

I find that walking at least 30 minutes a day definitely helps to keep glucose levels down. It’s just harder at night cos it’s getting dark earlier.
