Hi,

I'm currently nearly 17 weeks I had the whooping cough vaccine on Tuesday. The midwife said it’s not a live vaccine so I should have no side effects just a sore arm, well Wednesday I felt awful! Sore dry throat headache shivers was up all night last night and still feel rough today anyone else get this? I do feel really run down in general I have never been so tired in all my life! This is my 3rd baby the last 2 times I had the whooping cough along with the flu jab and felt awful as well but put it down to the flu vaccine but this time I never got them together.

I got mine (Tdap only, not with flu jab) at 20 weeks three days ago - sore arm easing off today but other than tiredness and some headaches yesterday I feel ok! Just staying really hydrated seems to help, sleeping when I need to 👍 I’m also on antibiotics for a UTI at the same time which is why I’m keeping on top of my water intake!

@Siestamama thank you, it could just be a virus I’ve picked up at the same time as the jag! Just curious as she said I wouldn’t get side effects lol. I am really struggling with the tiredness I could sleep all day everyday but I have a 4 and 2 year old which makes it harder 😂

Vaxs that aren't live viruses can give side effects. I don't know enough specifically about this but it's not the case that only live ones give side effects.

From nhs website ....

After having the whooping cough vaccine, you may have some mild side effects such as swelling, redness or tenderness where the vaccine is injected in your upper arm. This is normal after having a vaccine and it should only last a few days.

Other side effects can include a high temperature, irritation at the injection site, nausea and loss of appetite, tiredness and headache. Serious side effects are extremely rare.

@Tired6789 thank you! I don’t know why she would have said that, I definitely have the sore head part.

I had mine the other week and was told I might feel unwell for a couple of days afterwards.

But if you have other DC then chances are that they’ve picked up a bug and brought it home and it’s just a coincidence that it’s come at a similar time.

I had mine at 21 weeks and had a tender arm and felt tired/ headachey for a few days. It definitely made me feel as I would if I was coming down with something but did ease off fairly quickly. Hopefully that's all it is you can just try and take it easy for a few days.
