Am considering spending a large sum of money on a Jane Carrera Formula Travel System -NOT to show off but will be dealing with tiny baby & long term back problem. Pram V V lightweight & steers with 1 hand! Please tell me its worth the expense

I have a matrix travel system (I think) but I don't like it very much. I find it very cumbersome and the tires are a flipping nightmare if you get a puncture and have a screaming baby to contend with. The basket is small and it doesn't fold particularly small. Also hate three wheels, would much rather have four as mounting curbs sends it off balance. The things I do like are that it steers well one handed, large seating area for child and good and solid for long walks. Very smooth but really wish I'd bought something else.

We have the Jane Slalom Rebel Pro 3 wheeler and apart from the disc brake not working it's been a really good investment. I also have a bad back and our little boy was huge from the word go really. It's one of the lightest prams to push, and the buggy's we've bought for taking abroad are just awful in comparision. It is a lot of money - we wanted one that could go off road & one that didn't look like a WAGS purchase. I agree with gingerninja that it's great for long walks but it's not so practical in shops as pretty big, but can turn on a sixpence too which sort of makes up for that. I will admit that it is also rather cumbersome to get in and out of boot and you won't fit much else in the boot once it's there. I specifically went for the rebel instead of the matrix as thought the latter just too heavy and that was without the baby in it! The rebel car seat was good & really east to click onto main pram & we used the carrycot for first few months instead of a moses basket so got good use out of that too.

i have got a graco quattro tour deluxe and will be really sorry to have to trade it in for a double pram this september. it is lightweight but not flimsy, is a genuine one-hand fold, turns in really a really tight circle and lies flat for a newborn. dont know about the Jane travel systems for a single baby - am getting the jane powertwin as DS will only be 11months old when this bump is due. HTH

mollymawk · 04/03/2008 21:34

I have one of these. I have had it for nearly 5 years for 2 DSs. It has been great for me because I like to walk and it is very manoevrable and can easily go "off-road".
However, if you want a pram that you can fold up easily and eg get in and out of the car then this probably not the best one. We have to take a wheel off to get ours in the boot.

Look on ebay, most of them are in very good condition on there and are ALOT cheeper than buying them brand new. I am going to get the jane powertwin when ds is born and it is nearly £400 new... on ebay you can pick one up for about £150, sometimes even less!

Got two friends who swear by jane slalom. Three wheeler is easy to push and comfortable ride for baby to toddler. Have just bought jane slalom and matrix cup car seat for 355 from ebay, recommended retail is 620 (got raincover and matching bag too). Definitely look on ebay and try www.twoleftfeet.co.uk/

nosnikrap · 06/03/2008 14:07

ps, mine was brand new too.

fatzak · 06/03/2008 14:12

We had a Powertrack 360 with both the matrix and the rebel carseat. Whilst it seemed fine at the time, looking back, the rebel seat was often a pain to click on and off the chassis and once even stuck (had to chuck the whole lot in the boot, good job I had the estate car that day!!!!) The front wheel often went a bit dicky and for the last few months that I used it I had to have it locked as opposed to on swivel.
Mind you, the disc brakes (what was that all about DH???) did attract a lot of attention from other Dads!!

mollymawk · 06/03/2008 18:43

fatzak, I completely agree about the disc brakes - the men always notice them!
Another thing I remebered - which was in fact the reason we got the Jane in the first place - is that the carseat (can't remember which is the name for this version) goes completely flat - so the baby lies flat like in a carrycot. Good for longish journeys when the baby is v small and floppoy.

Thanks everyone. Have decided to go ahead and buy. The Carrera has 4 wheels (which are smaller than the Slalom which I also tried out & liked), and folds down quite a bit smaller as a result. I will be without a car during the week so I will hopefully be out & walking, rather than in & out of the car, so your comments on this have encouraged me. I'm also glad somebody has used the carrycot in lieu of moses basket as I fully intend to do the same. Didn't know if this was acceptable or tantamount to child abuse! Thanks again

yes use carrycot as alternative to moses basket

dizzydixies · 08/03/2008 18:22

vicsta - have had mine for 5yrs and using it for dc3 in july as well/ have both matrix AND rebel car seat as on longer journeys I wanted dd lying flat but when dd2 arrived not enough room for that luxury - also used matrix as a lie flat/moses basket option when visiting relatives etc
