Bleeding at 8 weeks - scan measuring 2 weeks behind

Looking to see if anyone else has any similar experiences and what the outcome was.
Going by my LMP I should be 8 weeks pg tomorrow. For the last few days I've had bleeding that started off a pinkish brownish colour, but is now heavier and bright red in colour with some small clots.
I was referred to the EPU yesterday by my GP and was completely expecting the worst but was scanned and told that they could see the embryo in there with a heartbeat, but that it was measuring at 6+1 (so roughly 2 weeks behind)
They couldn't find any obvious cause for the bleeding, but said that if it continued or changed to go back in a few weeks so that they could measure for progression.
I know I should be feeling reassured but honestly I'm wrecked with worry as the bleeding hasn't yet stopped. Everything I've read online points to this not ending positively, with the combo of bleeding and measuring so far behind. Has anyone else experienced this please? :(

Hi, I had a similar though not exactly the same experience as you - I should warn you it didn't end well. I had an early scan at 7+5 based on LMP, saw heartbeat but baby only measuring 6+1. A week later I started bleeding, brown at first and then red with clots, but never very heavy - I got into EGU for a scan (which ended up being 10 days after the early private scan I had already had) and was told there was no heartbeat. I have to have a confirmatory scan tomorrow and will then be moving onto management.

Sorry not to have a better story - I was in a slightly different situation though in that the bleeding started after I had had a scan and seen a heartbeat. Absolutely contact them again if the bleeding doesn't settle down.

Hi @Littleleafer28 - I had a similar experience with 5 week old DD who is currently sleeping on my chest! I had bleeding off and on for the first trimester, accompanied by cramping and backache. It was CRAZY - I thought, so many times, that it had to be game over because at times I was passing large clots, it was like a full-on period, and yet she managed to cling on and she's absolutely fine. I had multiple early scans and no-one was able to identify a cause for the bleeding; just 'one of those things'.

It's so hard because it could go either way. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do but wait, and it's torturous. I just thought you might want to hear a positive story. I wish you all the luck in the world Flowers

Thanks both so much for your replies. I think its the waiting that's the absolute worst.
@CluelessInLondon I'm so sorry for your loss and really hope you're doing as ok as you can be. Sending you lots of love and hugs through this difficult time!

@Littleleafer28 Thank you, that's really kind of you and I hope things work out better for you than they did for me. Good luck. ❤

I had very heavy bleeding at times during my first pregnancy and a scan identified a blood clot building up within the lining of the uterus but not near the baby. The clot partially passed and was reabsorbed. DD was born at term absolutely fine. I'm keeping everything crossed for you x
