Morning guys, Weighed myself today and I've gained 4 pounds from pre pregnancy, I'm in healthy BMI and although eating more than usual, this still isn't a huge amount, sub 2000 calories. I'm just really confused that I'm piling the weight on so early. It says 1-5 pounds weight gain first trimester, I have weeks to go yet with 1 pound to spare before I'm outside the realms of normal weight gain?

Kindly, I don't really need anyone telling me it shouldn't matter etc, I know I'm going to gain weight and that's fine, what I'm asking is if anyone else is seeing this sort of rapid gain? Thank you x

I'm nearly 14 weeks and I've gained about 8 pounds, maybe a bit more. I think most of that was in the first 10 weeks and it seems to have levelled off a bit now. I thought that was very rapid, but then I was pretty much living on McDonalds. You also have to think of all the changes going on in your body - I'm really bloated with excess fluid which isn't helping. Plus my boobs are huge.

I've read quite a lot about what you 'should' gain in the first trimester, and to be honest I don't think it's all that helpful. I think it can be normal to gain quickly, but it can also be normal to not gain at all. It all depends on your specific body. You may find it slows down in the middle trimester, then ramps up again in the third.

I found the weight gain initially disturbing, but now I don't care! I'm just gonna let my body do its thing.

Thank you, thats helpful to know. My brains just in a bit of a tizz, Ive always had a somewhat mild eating disorder, so there is a huge part of my brain telling me I'm clearly overeating to be gaining so quickly and that I need to calorie control, then there is the other part that knows I'm really not overeating (sub 2000 calories a day) and to just listen to my body if its hungry. I know there isnt an answer to this, I guess Im just seeking reassurance to tell the shit bit of my brain that its all ok.

It's definitely all OK. Your body is doing what it needs to do to grow your baby. I know it's not that simple when you have difficulties around food though, so it might be worth talking to your GP.

I think you just need to keep eating healthy food and stay hydrated.
It might also be fluid that is showing on the scales.

Also are you ok with the blood sugar levels? All good?

Hi @Screwballs
I put on weight in the first few weeks of my pregnancy, quite alot and i looked very pregnant. Pre pregnancy i was slim and am quite strict with my diet. Now into my second trimester it's very different, the weight has balanced out and i don't feel that extra weight feeling, you'll see and feel a difference in your second trimester hun. Congratulations on your pregnancy! xx

I dont know, I dont know how I'd find this out. Ill have a Google. I have been absolutely famished this time around, when I was last pregnant I didnt put on any weight, dont remember hunger, I MC'd at 16 weeks though so I guess not v. reliable. This time I'm so hungry 80% of the time and I am eating plenty, home made food, fruit, cereal bars etc. So maybe thats a blood sugar thing? Interesting, worth me finding out!
