Hi eveyone
I'm 29 weeks pregnant with my thrid baby today I was walking my son to playgroup and seen my nanny I stopped to talk to her and my hearing went funny then my vision I felt weak and dizzy and like I waw going drop its lasted maybe a minute then I came round as I went to walk away it happened again and lasted about 3 minutes my dad was luckily near by and picked me up in the car
I phoned the midwives they asked what happened I explained they said its unlikely to be related to baby and I could go to a&e if I wanted
I have just been resting and it hasn't happened since
But it's scared me if I hadn't of seen my nanny I could have collapsed on a main road with my 2 year old in his pram
Anyone know what could cause this I had eaten and drunk before I went out
Scared something might be wrong with me I was last at the hospital on Friday for a growth scan and all was good and blood pressure was normal and so where my bloods

All help would be great as the midwife just didn't seem bothered tia

Hi @Lily189
Hope you're feeling ok, i know in that moment it feels so scary xx
When i was pregnant I would get dizzy and the room would spin. Everything was ok tests wise but i'm sure it was my iron. I took an iron supplement everyday (i'm vegetarian). Make sure your iron levels are ok. Also, i juiced raw beetroot and carrot, this helped me so much xx

My iron levels tank during pregnancy. I fainted with my second and has to have iron transfusions so ask the midwife about that.

I fainted in a pub when I was 16 weeks (I think)
we were stood up and I git the feeling of being distant and it going darker (I always fainted with p pains at school) I said to hubby
im going to faint, next minute I was on the floor

it is frightening fainting as you know it’s going to happen but before you can do anything
it’s happened!

I once knew it was going to happen and quickly went to sit down on the sofa and put my head forward
next minute I was off to the side !
I thought you didn’t faint once sat down

sorry no answer for you , but if it did happen whilst out
theres always someone near by to help

Hi thanks for the replies I'm near sure my iron is being monitored as I lost blood after both my c scetions and needed iron and I had bloods done Friday which where all fine
If it happens again I'll go straight to the hopsital

I think your midwife meant that fainting is unlikely to indicate any issue with your baby OP, but it’s quite a common symptom in pregnancy. NHS says it can be hormonal (see link) and it can also happen if your iron is low as PPs have said or if your blood pressure drops. The less oxygen to the brain thing happens when your blood pressure is low - your body makes you feel faint and sit/lie/fall down which brings more blood back to your brain! Bodies are clever things. People also faint when they have to stand up for a long time without walking (I heard buckingham palace guards are trained to wriggle their toes in their boots to avoid it).

If it happens again, sit down (yes, even outside on the pavement). I’d tell you to put your head between your knees but that’s probably not feasible with a bump! Basically lower you head so it’s quicker and easier for your blood to get to your brain and wait for the faint feeling to subside. You can also try walking on the spot or moving your feet without traveling any distance when you stop to talk to people.
