There is 23 months between my 2 and I had a double Graco (it was a few years ago though) . I know some people manage with a sling for the baby and pushchair for the toddler but I liked my twin. ds1 would walk but I couldn't guarantee he'd walk all the way iykwim.

i asked nearly the same as my dd is 2 and i am due in august , my plan is to use a pram w with a toddler seat on , or a sling for the baby with dd in pushchair . i am hoping to not get a double pushchair as they seem to be hard work and my entrance ahll is small.xx

I have 2 and a half years between my 2 and dithered. I asked myself a few queastions before I decided. Does dd nap in the pram if we are out for the day? Does she walk well all the places I will go without dh eg local shops toddler group whatever? And will I be likely to go into town on a long shopping day by myself ie will I have someone else to push her in a buggy if I need it?

In the end I never got one, dd had stopeed using the buggy on her own she walked quite happily locally around the shops and I rarely went into town without dh so he could take a buggy for her if need be. She hadn't slept in the buggy when out for ages either.

It also depends I think on how much walking you do, if you walk a lot it can be too much for little legs.

Cant say that I have been there but I would imagine there would be nothing worse than having onechild in a stroller and either a toddler that has had enough of walking or a baby that is getting too much to carry. If it was me I would go for an inexpensive double, if you dont think you will be using it long, and then on days when your son is feeling energetic enough to walk everywhere you have somewhere extra to pop the shopping.

I remeber when I used to mind a 3 year old there were times when I still took out his stroller because a)It took 5 hours longer to get him from a to b if he was walking, b)If he was playing up and wasnt in the mood to be trusted being able to be out of his stroller I could pop him back in, c) there was always a seat for him on the tram so he wouldnt get crushed - the same would go for crowds, d) some days he would just be too tired to walk around and would still want to take a nap in his stroller when he had had too much

I remember a colleague who had a 2yr age gap and swore she wouldn't need a double and just got a buggy board. I bumped into her in the park with a double buggy! I was kind and didn't remind her.

My older dd used to fall asleep after preschool for at least 2 hours when she was 3! I'd have been lost without a double.

I bought a Phil & Ted - there's 18mths between my two and the eldest is now 30mths and the youngest is a 12mths. When the baby was very young my eldest was always in the top seat, when the baby started to sit up and was more awake he then went into the lower seat which he called his racing car. He now scooters a lot but on the days he gets tired he goes straight into the 'racing car'. Somedays if I have a lot of shopping he is actually light enough to sit on the handle/canopy.
