Not eating healthy in pregnancy due to sickness and feeling so guilty

Hi

I’m currently now 18 weeks and I’m still really nauseous and off loads of food. The food I fancy eating literally depends on the day but it hasn’t been the best it’s been cereal, choc crisps, snacks, jacket potatoes, beans on toast that’s about it really

I ate so well in my first pregnancy and I can’t help but feel so guilty for not this time round and that something bad will happen for not 😩 I’m just wondering if any one else didn’t eat the best and everything was ok I no it’s sounds so stupid but I had some early losses and it’s just heightened my anxiety through this pregnancy 😩 thankyou x

I survived mainly on chocolate during my pregnancy. I really wouldn't worry yourself, you're doing a great job x

I had horrendous morning sickness (both actual vomiting and constant nausea) for 5-6 months during both of my pregnancies. Often beige, salty food was the only thing I could stomach eating and keep down. Please don’t feel guilty, in the nicest possible way babies are parasites whilst in the womb and will take whatever they need from you- your baby will be grand! Sorry to hear about your previous losses Flowers

Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I ate a decent amount of veg, unless it’s part of a meal as standard, like peppers in fajitas. I wouldn’t worry about it, eat what you can to get through it!

Your baby will take from you what it needs. The human race depends on that.

You are really not alone in struggling with food in these months.
I moved so far from the ideals set for myself and all the green and wonderful things I'd live on. (Even the thought of lettuce in the fridge made me heave.)
Mine arrived strong and healthy despite this.

It is just amazing how well little humans thrive.

We called my son Pickle before he was born, because I could only eat pickles, satsumas and salt and vinegar squares for about 3 months. Full term baby, 8lb 3oz.

With my daughter, I got an illness and spent the second half of the pregnancy largely not eating at all (on medical advice) and lost a ton of weight. She was small but healthy at birth, came straight home and then made it up fast once we gave her formula. They are both absolutely grand now.

Honestly, babies are tougher than you think.

I vomited throughout my first pregnancy from about 2 weeks to giving birth and lived on jacket potatoes with butter and packs of cheese Wotsits , they were the only things that didn’t come back up . Baby was 10 lb + and fine .

If it wasn't for McDonald's quarter pounder with cheese and burnt crumpets I would have starved during my first pregnancy. The thought of eating anything else made me heave.

I lived almost exclusively on fish finger sandwiches for the first five months of my (very sicky) pregnancy; DC was nearly 9lb at birth and is now an enormous healthy 8 year old. Don’t stress!

preggo39 · 19/09/2023 16:25

For the first 10 weeks I lived on McDonalds, kebabs, salt and vinegar crisps and pineapple juice.

I'm eating a bit better now at 13.5 weeks, although I had a Burger King for lunch 😆 Before pregnancy one of my fave dinners was salmon, broccoli and new potatoes but the thought of it right now makes me want to gag.

Please don't stress.

It's threads like these that make my love mumsnet - no judgment, all in the same boat.

I have eaten so much beige food, chocolate and crisps this pregnancy. Those share bags of malteaser's - DH didn't even get a look in.

My toddler DS is tallest in his class at nursery - I lived off McDonald's with him.

Congratulations!

I had Hyperemisis and lost nearly 3 stone when I was pregnant.. my tiny baby (well she was 6lb so not that tiny..) is happy, healthy and nearly as tall as me at 10!

The doctors and midwives told me the baby will take what it needs, and actually it doesn’t need that much! just do what you can, and be kind to yourself. Eat when you can, but make sure you stay hydrated most importantly… Speak to your GP or midwife if it worsens…

sending good vibes xx

Whoever named them share bags did not account for pregnant women at all!
