28wks no movement on scan but CTG okay - worried

I’m just back from the hospital after having a CTG for reduced movements, the CTG was fine but they did a scan to reassure me and there was no movement seen on the scan. Strong heartbeat, good blood flow etc.

Because they noted no fetal movements on the scan, they’ve asked me to go back Saturday and Sunday for a ctg again and then another ultrasound on Monday so that they hopefully see movement.

I have felt her a bit but not like before, she moved a lot during the CTG so that’s good but I’m now worried about lack of movement on the scan.

Monday feels like a long time to wait for another scan but they don’t do Obstetric ultrasound on the weekend.

Has anyone had this? Just looking for a bit of extra reassurance. I’m going back first thing and they were really good at making me feel like I should call before then. It’s hard because we had a pattern of movement but last 2 days it completely changed, so now I’m in the unknown again.

Thanks if you read this far, just need a bit of a handhold I think!

Sorry you’re going through this OP! It’s all very stressful. It also happened to me during my pregnancy at 33 weeks. Presented with decreased movement and ctg was fine- midwife said nothing to worry about but as per hospital protocol, doctor will do a scan first. No movement during scan but got told that maybe baby was just sleeping. We waited a bit and then the first doctor went to get his boss, who did another scan and we sat there for maybe 15min while she was staring at the screen trying to make him move. Anyways it all escalated pretty quickly and I had a section.

Sorry I’m no help but I also don’t think the hospital would’ve let you go if they were very worried, which is a good sign right? I hope movements do pick up soon 🤞🏻

Thanks for replying. I hope you and baby are okay now? Sounds scary!

I do feel they did all the monitoring they could and am happy to be going back for another scan. I’ve sat and focussed on movement and there’s been quite a bit since we got back so that’s definitely reassuring. It was just horrible to see her not moving on the scan when on the others she’s been so wriggly! I think that was the only thing that caused them to ask me back for another scan, the ctg was perfect and I clicked the thing quite a lot as she was moving with the monitor on.

This is one of the worst bits of pregnancy that I don’t feel we know about until we’re pregnant!

I had reduced movements about 6 times with my first DC.

It is possible baby moved into a different position and you’re just not feeling them as strongly and absolutely could just be coincidence about the scan.

It’s terrifying I agree, if you’re feeling some decent movement since you got back that’s great sign that maybe she just wasn’t playing ball during the scan, but of course ring them and go back again if you have any concerns

I was defo not prepared for this! I’ve been so lucky to have a really chilled out, low risk pregnancy with not really worrying about anything until now. I did get the odd pang of worry at the start before my 12 week scan but apart from that’s it’s been plain sailing.

It’s just so horrible going from a good strong pattern of movement to basically nothing one day, nothing prepared me for that!

Im so happy to be able to say that since I posted this I’ve had some good movements again which is a relief. I think you’re right, she was just resting or not playing ball when they did the scan.

So positive bits are baby's heartbeat is fine, CTG is picking up movements etc. They would not have sent you home if they thought your baby was in any immediate danger...you've done the right thing by going with your gut instinct and getting checked. The absolute worse case scenario is that if this theme continues, and they're worried, they may want you to deliver baby early. That's still ok. It's not unheard of and you/baby would be in safe hands. Hoping that your best case scenario of baby just not playing ball for the scans (which is a more likely one) is what it turns out to be :)
