Lletz

Hi

Sorry if this is something that's been covered alot, i'm new to this app.
I am 8 weeks pregnant and started a little research on the effects of lletz in pregnancy. Some of the stories were pretty worrying & i noted that it's important to know how many mm of tissue was removed. I wanted to be prepared to speak to the midwife so asked for my medical records hoping it would tell me how much was removed.

I had the procedure done in 2011 when i was very young. All i can see is that it was under GA and the report showed CIN2 with signs of CIN1 in the ectocervical area. I remember the GA was because i was very nervous, or at least I think so.

Everyone else seems to know how much they had removed. I just wondered how you got this information? A private scan is from 16weeks plus & i can do that but i'd still just like to have an idea of the risks.

Thanks in advance

I have no idea how much was removed just that it was cin 1 & 2. You just need to tell your midwife you've had the treatment in the past and she will refer you for ultrasound to check - think from memory I had it same time as my 12 week scan and they will decide if you need any further support with a stitch etc x

I’ve had 3 Lletz all for cin1 and a cone biopsy in my early twenties. No idea how much was removed. I get extra cervical scans in pregnancy. Have had two baby’s and not needed a stitch. Once you tell your midwife, you should end up with a cervical scan (or consultants appointment) - but each area is slightly different in terms of how they operate/what’s offered.

Hi. I had 1 lletz and 12mm removed. I've just had my 20 week scan and my cervix has got very short and I needed a stitch. But I don't think it's very common. Most people are okay with just one procedure under 15mm x

Thank you! My concern was that alot of people were told they can't have a scan if they've only had one treatment x

There's a really helpful group on Facebook - Incompetent cervix UK, Pregnancy Related - it might be worth asking in there. I've not had lletz but have needed a stitch. You could also check out the Nice guidelines for cervical monitoring to see what your NHS Trust should offer.

I’ve only had one procedure. The midwife will already have all the records as it flags up so don’t worry about needing to find out. I had 15mm removed and have had cervical scans with my second and third pregnancies, you don’t need to do it privately, it’ll get done on nhs if you have had a LLETZ.

All my scans have shown no shortening or funnelling and I was discharged back to low risk midwife care.

I only found out how much was removed when I had a follow up appointment, post lletz or post DD1, I had lletz nine months prior to falling pregnant, 1cm removed, I did have issues with a shortening cervix. However, in my second pregnancy 9 years after lletz no problems at all other bleeding caused by cervical ectropian

Hello OP, I had a lletz in 2012 and am now 13 weeks pregnant. I told my midwife about it at my booking in appointment and I'm seeing a consultant at 15 weeks. I have no idea how much of my cervix was removed either, but it didn't seem to matter - the midwife said the consultant would monitor me.

Hope you're not too worried. Have you had your booking appointment yet?

I couldn’t tell you how much was removed when I had one after my first pregnancy (side note- colposcopies whilst pregnant are not fun), but I had a cervical length scan at 16 weeks in subsequent pregnancies and apparently I still have “a lovely, long cervix”! Weirdest compliment ever!

This is really reassuring thank you. How are the cervical scans?

Thank you! I have booked my appointment. I was just prepared for a dismissive midwife as that's what I kept reading. I just wanted to be prepared. Thank you

@Lithgow2000 theyre fine. Obviously not the nicest having internal scans but they aren’t uncomfortable or painful and only last a few minutes. They’ll then scan you abdominally and you get to see your baby which is always nice.
