Zika virus!!

I am looking for some major reassurance because I am so worried right now!

I got married a few months ago and went on my honeymoon to Borneo where zika virus is high risk. When we got back I had some mild symptoms to went to GP who said he wasn't worried about Zika as it would clear from my body within 1 month anyway, but tested me for Malaria and that came back negative.

He said it was fine for women to get pregnant after 1 month of returning from a zika risk place, but 3 months for men, so we paid and got my husband tested privately and it came back negative.

Anyway we got pregnant the month after returning unexpectedly as we really did think it would take longer than 1 month to get pregnant! I am now 6 weeks and completely stressed that it happened so quick just in case it was Zika I had, when I now look online it says to wait at least 2 months ideally 3 😩 can someone please advise what I should do?!

I think you can get private blood tests to see if you’ve got antibodies. You could both do a test and go from there?

Don't panic! Even if you had zika the odds are strongly in favour of all being fine! I fell pregnant about two weeks after returning from Brazil and about 1 week before zika first hit the news (it was rife in Brazil then), I had extra scans throughout the pregnancy to keep an eye on development, all was well.

Don't stress!!! Just focus on growing baby. Dr has already advised 1 month is fine and your mild symptoms have not been confirmed as zika anyway.

I agree, the advice I have seen says to leave 2 months before conception for women….perhaps you could double check with the practise &/or your midwife?the least they could do is check your bloods as this will at least set your mind at rest, nothing worse than ending up stressing unnecessarily over something that can be checked for easily.

I went to Mexico in June and got pregnant in July. The midwife wasn’t concerned at all at my booking appointment as I wouldn’t have been pregnant when I was there. I believe the studies on passing it to the baby after conception are only theoretical.

I went to Cuba at the height of Zika in 2016. Got bitten but I have no idea if I contracted zika. I got pregnant within a week of coming back. I was so worried. I asked my midwife and to be honest got very little advise as I don't think they really knew what the guidance was. My DD is now a perfectly healthy (if a little diva!) 6 year old. I get the worry but I think any complications are extremely rare.

Thank you everyone. That does make me feel a bit better. I'm a nightmare for googling and everything regarding pregnancy and zika virus sounds terrifying. I have booked to get tested for antibodies myself and will get my husband tested again just to make sure and go from there, then speak to midwife/GP about it all. Thank you all

just researching Zika threads as we are planning on a holiday before TTC and Zika is a risk!

please update us, was all well?

@Frenchtoastie currently 27+6 and all is well so far, when I had my first midwife appointment I discussed it and nothing was really said. In fact Malaysia where I had been wasn't even on their list of risky countries. It is in my notes under risks that I travelled to a zika infected country, but no one has ever said anything about it and all scans have shown baby is fine x
