Possible bowels outside of baby

I had my 12 week scan on Thursday and everything was looking great, until the sonographer told us that she was referring us to fetal medicine as she was concerned about how the ‘cord insertion’ to the baby was looking and said it could indicate that part of the bowels are forming outside the body and that the stomach hadn’t fully closed.

We did the combined screening test and just waiting for the bloods to come back from that. She said if it is the bowels, it can sometimes be linked to chromosomal abnormalities.

Been totally devastated ever since. I go to fetal medicine on Tuesday but that just feels like forever away!

has anyone else had this? I’ve read stories of it rectifying itself in later weeks. I was just 12 weeks+1 at scan.

Oh @jennys9221 , I'm so sorry to hear this 💔 I can only imagine how devastated you must feel😔 It sounds like you've put your little boy first like the caring parents you are.

I hope the NHS provide support and are compassionate. I'll be thinking of you in the coming week.

There are other boards where women discuss TFMR so perhaps you can find some information and support from those who have been through something similar. Sending you lots of virtual hugs. X

So very sorry to read your update, and was thinking how very kind of you to share this knowing that future women would also be grateful for information on outcomes. What a generous spirit at such a difficult time. I hope that the weeks ahead are as manageable as possible given the circumstances.
