35 weeks and feel baby is breech

Hi guys, anyone with a baby breech in the third trimester? I had a scan at 32 weeks as I was measuring 29 weeks fundal height, they confirmed baby was around 29 weeks mark but siad all was fine as still measured a little above the 10th centile, though compared to fundal measurements this dropped form almost at the 90th centile 🤷🏽‍♀️ I was told I don't need any further scans. I'm worried baby is breech or maybe transverse as I feel my kicks lower down and have noticed a bump pushing out the side of my stomach occasionally since yesterday 🫠

Where were your kicks with a transverse/breech baby?

Also I've had people comment I look so small for 35 weeks and of course I'm now overthinking ☹️

When is your next midwife appointment?
They will be able to check which position baby is laying in, and refer you to maternity day unit if required.

I had one on Monday and she wasn't concerned said she will check at the next app, but that isn't until 2 days before 38 weeks as she has a backlog, I feel like that's so late!

Mine was breech at 32 weeks, I felt most of the kicks higher up as her bum was in my pelvis and legs by her head. You could also definitely feel her head just under my ribs.

I was transverse all the way through my pregnancy. I never really felt kicks but if I did, they were low down. Almost always had a head or bum sticking out at the side. I never had kicks in the ribs and never had the head engaged feeling. All was fine with a c-section delivery.

Your case is almost the exact same as mine! I am 39 weeks today and the baby has been breech since week 35 (same as you – had a scan because my midwife thought it was a big baby based on fundal measurement, which appeared to be the opposite, baby is rather on the small side).

Now in retrospect I feel that my midwife completely disregarded the fact that baby has breech for so many weeks now. I had an appointment with her at 36 weeks where she said we will wait and then at 38 weeks she thought the baby’s turned (even though I was 101% sure that wasn’t the case). I ended up having another scan at 38+2 which confirmed the breech position. I was only contacted by a specialist breech midwife at 38+6 and offered ECV for the first time then. We decided not to go with the ECV and go for the planned c section but at the moment I have nothing booked as there are no slots available for a planned c section and I’ve been put on the waiting list. I feel like this happened because everything has been done way too late.

It sounds like I am a few weeks ahead of you and I have one regret which is not pushing my midwife more in regards to getting a referral to a consultant/specialist breech midwife and having an earlier scan. It feels that I wouldn’t be in this (really stressful!) situation of not having anything booked at the moment. If you are considering ECV it should be offered to you at 37 weeks. It's the NHS, if you don't push, nothing gets done!! So my advice is call them, nag them, be a pain in the arse :)

In terms of movements, I can really clearly feel the baby's head on my left side, right under my ribs and kicks on the other side (it's like he's c-shaped), sometimes higher when he's holding his legs up (that was his position during the latest scan). But my midwife thought his bum was the head, so you never know :). You simply need a scan to confirm.

Do not worry about the baby measuring small as long as its within 10-90 percentile, it feels like fundal measurements are soooo misleading.

I had a very similar experience to @mrsdarthlord - midwife kept sending me for growth scans but was super casual about the fact my dd had been breech from around 28 weeks. At my last scan at 34 weeks, the midwife I saw at the hospital was annoyed that I hadn’t been referred to a consultant or had any discussions about the baby being breech.

I ended up going into spontaneous labour 4 days later and having an EMCS at 34+4. Not to scare you (the two things weren’t necessarily related) but I agree with PP I would push, dont wait for 38 weeks.

@cashmerecow
At 37 weeks I felt my baby move to transverse and I presented to maternity day unit, they can do presentation scans to check the babies position.
If your still concerned, you can try your day unit?
