Is everyone having to wait for the covid booster?

According to 119, there’s no way to get it until week commencing 18th when the national booking system opens.

GP aren’t even offering it until 23/09.

Has anyone managed to get a booster earlier?

The programme begins in England on 11/09, but for care home residents/staff only in the first week

Others eligible from 18/09

I don't think any of the other home nations have dates ahead of England's.

You may well be able to get flu jab at the same time

Glitterb · 06/09/2023 10:12

Earliest slot I could get for a flu jab is 20th September, no mention of the covid jab but I’ll see what they say when I get there. I had to book early as I will be 36 weeks pregnant by then!

Maybemaybenot76 · 06/09/2023 10:18

It infuriates me that they control it like this. Everywhere else you can mostly get one whenever you want afaik!

I’ve not heard anything about Covid vaccine yet, apart from the trust I’m booked at and work at saying they will let us know when it’s available. The flu one is fairly soon, later this month. It’s all waiting for stock

CrispAppleStrudels · 06/09/2023 10:25

Yeah, i had my booking appt yesterday and the MW said it wont be available until later on in the month.

PickledScrump · 06/09/2023 10:26

My area you can book your flu jabs now but covid boosters are no longer given to pregnant women.

Maybemaybenot76 · 06/09/2023 10:47

@PickledScrump where are you based? Pregnant women are eligible across the entirety of the UK from 18/09 afaik

PickledScrump · 06/09/2023 10:58

@Maybemaybenot76 west midlands. Not something I’d be having anyway, but way back at booking in appointment midwife said they don’t offer to pregnant women anymore unless underlying health issues. No longer have masks or tests or anything like that anymore either.

Maybemaybenot76 · 06/09/2023 11:02

@PickledScrump fair enough. They was true until recently. It’s all changed now due to new variant concerns etc.

I actually had covid last year so wasn’t going to get vaccinated, but just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes so rather have some extra protection.

Is it still unavailable to the under 50’s?

U50s are not age qualified - for age it's 65 and over

The categories not related to age are:

  • frontline health and social care workers
  • residents in care homes for older adults
  • those over 6mths who fall into the "clinical risk group" (list in the Green Book)
  • those 12+ who are cohabitees of the critically vulnerable
  • some other carers (as defined in the Green Book)

Link to Green Book if you want to check further

Greenbook chapter 14a (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Thank you.

Wiccan · 06/09/2023 20:26

I asked at my surgery last week and was told the only people getting covid jabs now is the vulnerable with health conditions and the over 65s and there is no longer any routine booster .

Muchtoomuchtodo · 06/09/2023 20:28

I’m getting my covid booster and flu jabs a week tomorrow.

NHS Wales.

CrispAppleStrudels · 06/09/2023 21:35

@Maybemaybenot76 might be worth asking @mnhq to edit the title of your post to make it clear you were talking about in pregnancy as this is appearing in active now and I think maybe some pp are thinking you are talking about a general booster

LavenderSweetPea · 06/09/2023 21:57

I didn't think this year they were doing COVID booster for pregnant people unless they have other health conditions that would qualify them.

I'd like one but I don't think it's on the cards. I can't see anything online about them updating that?

The green book guidance that @UnmentionedElephantDildo linked to above says for autumn 23 anyone listed in table 3 should get a booster, and pregnancy (all stages) is listed. So i think we should be getting one. My MW certainly thought it was the case.

Mummyme87 · 08/09/2023 22:22

I’m a midwife and we’ve been told pregnant women are advised again to get them

Calistano · 08/09/2023 22:26

Why would you have a vaccine when you are pregnant? This shit has no long term testing. They won't test shit on pregnant women because of of ethical reasons, but this is fine? Ridiculous.

Calistano · 08/09/2023 22:37

Seriously? So many women denied medicine because pregnant, this shit is fine though, despite no testing whatsoever.

LavenderSweetPea · 09/09/2023 06:59

@Calistano it's not compulsory... does it matter why other people choose to have it? If you don't want it, don't have it.
