Hi all! Please can someone explain the below?

I am 31 years old, I went for my 12 week scan last week (measured 12 weeks 3 days), all looked fine, the fold measured 0.9, had bloods taken, nothing untoward was mentioned, but received the below just on the NHS app;

Down's Trimester: 1st | Down's Chance - 1 in 570, Down's Result Chance: Low | PAPP-A: (Not Recorded) MoM.

Will the “1 in 570” be the final result? I had my bloods taken so not sure why it’s saying not recoded after the PAPP-A part. Would it be best I wait for the letter in the post? Will this give a different result?

Sorry for the questions; just a bit shocked it’s so low so panicked, so just wondering if anyone can help.
Thank you in advance. x

I'm not sure, it's best to text you midwife to ask but I will say it sounds like 1:570 is probably your 'background' risk number (ie based solely on your age rather than your screening results) and your actual result will arrive by letter soon.

For comparison I am 33 and my NT was slightly larger than yours 1.4 I think, my risk was given as 1:1500ish - and that was only because I had low Papp a (requiring aspirin) otherwise the odds would have been better. I can't see how 1:570 would be your final ranking when your younger and have a smaller NT, even if your bloods were on the iffy side.

Contact your midwife to ask because I think your Papp a would have to be really low to get that risk and you'd need to be getting some advice on that anyway. She'll be able to confirm if that's your final risk.

On that plus side if that is your final risk 1:570 is still only like 0.17% chance so very very unlikely and certainly nothing to worry about.

Thank you so much! I really hope that’s the case!

Thats my issue, I don’t have a set midwife who I can call, well not that I know of. I have called the hospital but weren’t really much help and said she didn’t know what the MoM part meant and said to wait for the letter, but that’s easier said than done! I wish I didn’t check the app now and just have waited for the letter.

Im just not sure why it says not recoded for the PAPP-A part. I’ve had no call (..yet). I think I’m worrying too much as I’ve been looking at NIPT tests already.

Did they let you know your PAPP was low or did you already know? x

I found out my Papp a was low as part of the 12 week screening blood test, tbh I'd never even heard of it before. My MOM was 0.4 which is low enough your advised to take aspirin, although it's not super super low. Your results that you've put above are just that they don't have your Papp a recorded yet.

They usually call if there's a problem within a day or two. I think you've likely worried yourself by looking at the app before all your details are actually on there. But equally if you want an NIPT it's possible to get it done privately to put your mind at rest.

Thank you so much!! I do appreciate your response!

I’m just confused as to whether that’s the actual result on the app or the letter will tell me different. I think I’ve panicked myself as I presumed it would be a higher number for the background tests that had come back like the fold measurement etc and no concerns from the 12 week scan. Wish I hadn’t looked at the app.

Ive seen others photos of the letters, are they all the same where there give you a “background result” and next to it an “adjusted result”, or will it simply just give me one answer with the 1 in xxxxx result?

Ill just try and have some patience and wait for the letter and if still the same answers, will look at the private test for peace of mind. x

Yes the letters I believe are all the same in that you get a 'background risk' which is calculated only on your age, your babies gesation and I beleive also your BMI (ie things they know about you already from your booking in appointment).

I've just dug out my letter and my background risk was 1:569

You then get an 'adjusted' result which takes into accound your background risk, your blood results, and your NT measurement. If you had a 'bad' NT measurement you'd expect the adjusted result to be worse than than background, with a 'good' NT measurement you'd expect the adjusted result to be better than the background.

I think it's likely that what you are seeing in your app is your background result as that is all the information they have available right now, and your letter will include this background result plus your actual adjusted result. Since you already know your NT measurement, and it's only 0.9 which is good, you're adjusted result should be an improvement on your background result. But again, the 1:570 is still a really low risk result so not a number worth being worried about either if they don't do an adjustment.

Out of interest what is your app saying about the edwards/pataus risk?

Try not to worry until the letter arrives, it'll all be absolutely fine :)

I’ve managed to call someone at the hospital, they’ve explained that the PAPP results won’t be on there as it’s not low or an issue with it. She did say that those are the final results.

The other tests come back at 1:5000.

For peace of mind; I’ve booked to go to the hospital today and paying for the NIPT test as I know I’ll just worry not knowing, even though I know I’m not classed as high risk, I just need a more detailed answer, and hopefully one to stop me stressing.

Thank you so much for your replies!! x

Hey @AMS2024 how did you get on with your NIPT, hope everything was ok for you x

AMS2024 · 16/09/2023 07:11

Awwww!!! 🤍 Thank you so much for checking in. We had the results back on Monday and all
3 come back low risk for the NIPT tests. Such a relief and massive weight off shoulders.
