Has anyone been asked for fit to fly cert with Easyjet?

Flying with Easyjet to Portugal in a couple of weeks. Will be 34 weeks on the return flight. Easyjet states that you do not need a medical certificate, but I've heard some horror stories about people not being allowed on return flight. Has this happened to anyone here?

Are you sure that's what it says? Check their t&cs again because unless it's changed you definitely do need one.

Yes, on their help pages they state:

"If you’re pregnant, you can travel up until the end of your 35th week (32nd week for multiple pregnancies) and you don’t need to bring a medical certificate. Some seats on board the aircraft may be restricted but we show you which ones when booking. Please make sure you complete all return journeys no later than week 32/35 depending on pregnancy type.
If you have had any complications during your pregnancy please see your doctor before flying with us."

There isn't anything further in the T&Cs.

I recently flew with EasyJet at 31 weeks and didn't get asked for anything. I did though print off a copy of their website that confirms that you don't need a fit to fly certificate for <35 weeks. And also a photocopy of my matb cert to prove that I was under <35 weeks just in case someone asked me. But wasn't questioned about it at all on either flight.

I have heard the horror stories too and it's usually misinformed staff sticking their beak in.

I would print off their own guidance/rules, take evidence of your gestation and ensure your insurance is adequate too.

If you are really paranoid like I was then wear loose clothing that disguises the bump a little so people leave you the hell alone Grin

I refused to pay the extortionate fee for a letter when I officially didn't need one.

I breezed through with no problems in the end but I do know people that have been questioned etc and it's really unnerving when you just want to get back home.

I flew back in week 32 last year but was MASSIVE. They asked how many weeks I was at both airports but didn’t have to provide proof.

Although I flew with Ryanair I was asked twice at Faro airport for my fit to fly paperwork. I was 27 weeks but on the larger side. I just figured wasn't worth taking the risk.

Take your pregnancy notes showing your due date.

Flew back on EasyJet at 34 weeks last week and wasn't asked for anything. I also think I look quite large. I did have a note from my midwife though, so perhaps worth taking just in case.

ALF87 · 06/09/2023 09:57

Thanks everyone, will take everyone's advice and take my hospital notes, and print off the Easyjet terms, etc.
I'm at a midwife appt today so I'll maybe ask about a note as well, I'm pretty big as it is, and flying pretty close to the deadline.

I'm sure you've got it covered but please make sure your travel insurance covers both you and the baby, including for a nicu stay, repatriation, and the cost of living for potentially a month or two abroad. Then have a lovely time!

ALF87 · 07/09/2023 09:10

@welshweasel travel insurance is next on the list! wouldn't have thought to check check for all of those things so thanks!

Pregnancy is usually covered as standard but the other stuff may not be so do check!

ALF87 · 07/09/2023 09:58

@welshweasel If they don't mention pregnancy (as it's standard I assume and not considered a medical condition), but do talk about medical expenses, repatriation etc would that be enough?
Currently looking at Allianz.

Admiral excluded medical costs if you were travelling less than 8 weeks before due date (ie prem birth only was covered) and I'll be about 6/7 weeks.

Have you any recommendations?

Many insurance companies won't cover you after 32 weeks, as the risk of going into labour is so high.

I wouldn't assume anything, make sure you explicitly ask if you are covered for birth, and the baby is covered also. Many policies will cover you but not the baby (which is the expensive bit)

B3x · 17/07/2024 22:07

I am wondering whether you ever got an answer to the insurance queries? We are due to go on holiday in a few weeks and I will be 34 weeks when travelling back. I misunderstood the travel insurance when I looked prior to booking and now panicking as it seems not covered after 32 weeks which just seems crazy!
thanks in advance
