pupp?? I had itchy skin and found constant moisterising was the only thing that really helped, oils were the best (thinking of bump) i used bio oil which was fab for strecth marks too.

itchy8 · 03/03/2008 09:01

thanks for the tip, pupp is a condititon you can get in pregnancy the only cure is delivery! it is extreme itching over large areas of the body every mums worse nightmare. tried moisterising with all sorts now on steriod cream from docs but still no let up.

oh no! I had to go hosp near end of pg with ds coz i had itchy hands/soles and they thought i had that liver conditon (cant remeber what its called) but thankfully i didnt. I remember how awful it was though and summer of 06 was the hottest on record so i feel your pain! I remember cool water/ice pack helping though. It was always worse if i remembered it too, so if you end up sitting watching tele or something try an ice pack or a wet cold flannel on the itchiest bits

I know exactly what you are going through - I think I am getting the same as you and it is driving me insane!

It started the beginning of last week with my shins itching, now its my hands and arms too. I have also moisturised and it does help - for about a minute!

I have contemplated going to see the midwife but felt silly - at least I know Im not the only one!

itchy8 · 03/03/2008 14:34

my thoughts are with you i have done 8 weeks of this now. nothing has helped my body looks like a scabby mess where i am scratching so much. how far on are you cheekster? not supposed to start till 32 weeks [yeah right]. i went to gp said it was just being pregnant this is my 8th baby so knew it was not but took alot and still dont feel helped. my advice to you is google pupp read up if you think it is then go and get checked so you can try and get some help{hmm]

I had pupp too in the first trimester - my GP told me it was a shower gel allergy but luckily some observant midwives doing my 20 week scan immediately referred me to a dermatologist. Amazing it went of its own accord by the middle of the second so there is hope! I gave up any kind of perfumed soap, shower gel, shampoo etc and bathed myself every day in Balneum which I think helped. I got a case load on prescription. Good luck x

THANKS FOR THE HOPE, I WILL CALL DOCTORS TOMMOROW AND TRY AND GET SOME

Firstly i give you loads of sympathy... i had itching so bad, and the PUPP rings a bell. It really was the worst thing ever... and very little cure. I'd wake in the night as if i rubbed/knowed it had a tiny itch in my sleep it was hell. I also had steroidal cream from the doctor, which didn't ease it much and i was weary of using it, but would try anything! I tried E45 itch relief as well. I used them and also Aloe Vera Gel from the pharmacy as couldn't use cream all the time. Moisturiser did nothing for me. I am lucky to have a beer fridge in my room and in it i used to keep loads of wet flannels, as that helped relieve it for a short while, I kept the aloe gel in there, and my E45 stuff and probably steroid cream too.
I'm wanting another baby, but just hope i don't have to go through it again! You might find it passes after time and then comes back. Good luck!

I've just found out i', pregnant with my 2nd child and have very itchy skin around neck, chest, tummy and now shins, hence why i googled itchy skin and ended up here - however, i also had pupp with my first pregnancy which came on around week 36 - severe itchy lumps all over my thighs, abdomen and back which looked like a nettle sting rash - my gp, midwife and emergency doc at hospital had no idea what it was so i looked on net and discovered the pupp thing - it's apparently casued in some cases where male dna passes over to the expectant mother - i also had a little bot. The only comfort i found from it was splittling open aloe vera plants and getting my partner to spread them all over the area and also calamine lotion - looks really attractive white and green stripey skin!!!!

loubiehigh · 07/03/2008 14:16

sorry that was little BOY not bot - i wish!!

papaya · 07/03/2008 14:23

hi ya, I had severe itching a few weeks ago, and I used Anthisan cream and Piriton syrup, I didnt use much, and ONLY used when itching was unbearable, it really really helped me. My midwife suggested I tried it, hth x I am carrying a boy btw

Nessamommy · 07/03/2008 14:34

I had PUPP in my last trimester...it was a boy. I used calamine lotion..helped to relieve it a bit. I found that putting lotions etc. on it only made it itchier for some reason. I only had it on my belly weirdly enough.

Katelyn · 07/03/2008 14:42

I irritate my Husband all year round with mild eczema but since falling pregnant my itching is worse. I have my midwife appointment in 3 weeks so will discuss it then.

All i'm able to do at the moment to relieve it is cover myself in baby oil following the bath or shower and just let it sink in, I dont towel dry at all anymore - fingers crossed....

K x

AdeleFielder · 07/03/2008 16:34

Oh and I used calamine lotion also, that was reasonably good, but nothing lasts long. The good thing about that is I think they say to keep it in the fridge so with everything else i did. Adele
