Anyone get pregnant without using opks?

CrystalQueen87 · 03/09/2023 22:42

I'm so stressed out. I conceived our first child without using opks, then in March this year fell pregnant first cycle of trying without using them but unfortunately it was ectopic and I had to have emergency surgery and tube removal.
I have tried cheaply easy at home opks this month which is our first cycle of trying again, but I'm super stressed as the lines don't seem to have got as dark as the control lines, so now I'm thinking I haven't ovulated even though I have had ewcm and cramps.
I've become fixated on these tests and the numbers that pre mom app have given each test, im thinking of ditching them all together next month!
Has anyone got successfully pregnant without using them and just going with the flow?
I plan on dtd every other day.

Realistically more women will get pregnant without things like this than with, of course
you don’t need them to get pregnant.

Yes I know you don't need them but I just seen soooo many posts on here and Reddit ttc groups where people are tracking temping and opks it's just made me feel like this is the way to go if I want to get pregnant.

Yes, twice

greenmarsupial · 03/09/2023 23:44

I've never used them, I did track with the Clue app though.

MintJulia · 03/09/2023 23:55

Sorry, I had to google what they are. I just had lots of fun with ds's dad.

I'm not sure all that checking and worrying about things is terribly good for you. Why don't you bin them, take the pressure off yourself and your partner, and relax. See where you get to in a year's time.

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2023 23:57

Yes, all three times. OPKs weren't invented then. I knew when I was ovulating because of changes in cervical mucus and we concentrated our efforts round that time.

BeeEyeEnGeeOh · 03/09/2023 23:58

Never done them, have three DC.

fridaynight1 · 04/09/2023 00:31

I have no clue what you are talking about so I guess the answer is no. I have 3 children,

Superunknown1 · 04/09/2023 02:24

I used them for a couple of years, my problem was I became a bit obsessive and put so much pressure on myself (and my partner in retrospect) and would test once, twice, three times a day round about when ovulation was due. Got to the point where I had explorative surgery for unexplained infertility, all came back ok, kind of just assumed I would never fall pregnant and stopped doing the ovulation tests. Just over a month and a half later I was pregnant, we had just had fun without having to time when we made sure we had sex and I think the lack of stressing over it made a big difference. I know how horrible it is and the tests are helpful absolutely, just don’t focus too heavily on them I think or it can get quite heartbreaking.

You are only going to get a very specific set of answers if you’re looking on ttc threads though.
It’s not necessary and it’s not something most women do.
Fine for those that do it and fine it useful or comforting but it’s definitely not necessary.

MrsJ6921 · 04/09/2023 07:22

I did, I stopped tracking after 1 year as we still hadn’t conceived and it was just making me upset. Long behold 6 months later I found out I was pregnant and I honestly think its because I stopped thinking about it so much.

WhatNoRaisins · 04/09/2023 07:24

Yes, I thought all that tracking would just stress me out.

sezzer87 · 04/09/2023 08:06

Never did it ever occur to me to use opks. We just had sex at least 4-5 times a week.
They're only crucial if you're using a turkey baster to get pregnant and need to know when to order in your sperm.

mondaytosunday · 04/09/2023 08:21

Don't know anyone who has used them, except one might have as she got pregnant eventually through IVF, so probably did try this sort of thing at one point.
Of course you are more likely to post in the first place if you are using a tracking method or other to get pregnant.

snoopy18 · 04/09/2023 08:33

Didn’t use with first or this time.An old friend did however after having a miscarriage > daughter > miscarriage > daughter. Another with infertility issues for many years before falling pregnant. And an ex colleague who had severe PCOS and one miscarriage after very long time trying. Can see why they would be useful for many. Good luck!

riotlady · 04/09/2023 08:56

Never used them but I did track my cycle using Flo.

thecatsthecats · 04/09/2023 09:40

We barely even had sex for one reason or other the month I conceived, and the two times we did it weren't the times that seemed to be right.

After many months of "proper" trying around my peak times (no opks, just CM and cycle, plus more), it was the month that we had sex way too early and quite a bit late. It seemed so unlikely that I didn't even notice my period was AWOL until I was five days late, and when I got my husband to get tests, he thought it was probably just stress himself.

Tracking your body means nothing, really, if you don't have a very particular reason. You don't fatten a pig by weighing it.

CrystalQueen87 · 04/09/2023 13:08

Thanks all for the replies they've been really helpful.
Its been really stressful this month peeing on sticks several times a day and still not seeing a positive line to indicate ovulation.
I'm definitely going to just ditch them next cycle and go with the flow enjoying having sex several times a week and hoping it will be at the right time 😊

Ohitshappening · 04/09/2023 23:12

Yes. Definitely ditch them. All they do is make you obsess over it.
Got pregnant twice without.
First time very easy, less than 3 months of no contraception.
Second pregnancy after 7 years of not being able to conceive again!

As with a previous poster I do/did use the Flo app to track my (irregular) cycle which has an ovulation predictor integrated into it. Certainly didn't help me conceive but might give you an idea without the stress of peeing on sticks and tracking temps etc.

Good luck.

Galaxy2846 · 04/09/2023 23:34

Yes i didn't use them at all for my pregnancies and only used the flo app

lilpopcorn · 05/09/2023 10:37

I tried to use them the first cycle but found it so stressful. So the next cycle I just went with the flow more, had sex every other day in my fertile window and kept an eye on my CM instead. Worked for me!
