Morning sickness - am I overreacting?

Hi all,

My husband thinks I should go to a&e as he thinks I might be dehydrated. We have a blood pressure machine at home and my reading was 93/53. I haven’t been able to pee yet today and I’ve vomited about 3 times already this morning. I’ve been sick for the last few weeks but the last few days I’ve barely been able to eat or what I have eaten has come back up. I was checked over by my gp about 2 weeks ago and everything looked fine. Just don’t want to waste anyone’s time in a&e. I’m on cyclizine but it’s definitely not working. Should I go?

Yes I would go in and get checked for dehydration

Are you able to keep any fluids down?

Mummyme87 · 03/09/2023 10:05

If you can’t keep fluids down then yes go to A&E for rehydration. If you can keep fluids down, regular sips then get to GP tomorrow for different antisickness.

It sounds like it's worth getting checked.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/09/2023 10:23

Go to A&E, it sounds like you have/are developing Hyperemisis Gravidarum. There is treatment available, but if you
are dehydrated you'll need to go to hospital first.

Pregnancy Sickness Support cub provide a lot of practical, emotional and medical support.

Aldo be aware that legally, pregnancy related sick leave must be recorded seperately and can not be used in disciplinary action against you.

Does the maternity unit have a number you can call? They might be able to advise / see you there rather than A&E. Or it could be worth trying 111? If you can't keep anything down it might be worth getting checked out somewhere, just worth seeing if there is an alternative to A&E first!

Barleysugar86 · 03/09/2023 10:27

Dehydration happens really quickly. I was signed off work for a couple of weeks with one of my pregnancies as I was getting badly dehydrated. I spent that time sipping fluid constantly and nibbling on things trying to get some down me so I could feel a bit better. It was pretty miserable but a full time job just concentrating on prioritising that.

Maybe ring 111 for advice- there may be a walk in centre nearby that would be a better place for you to get checked.

Not only the sickness.... But that BP is ridiculously low, if it doesn't come up you really need to get checked x

Thanks all I am in a&e now about to be put on a drip. They keep saying I’m a bit tecchy? No idea what that means? My bp seems to be ok again but high heart rate. Thanks for all your responses - I’m always a bit apprehensive about going to a&e in case there’s nothing really wrong.

High heart rate. Probably caused by the dehydration. Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

I just saw a nurse and she said tachy as in tachycardia. I’m feeling much better now but I think I’m staying in for another round of fluids. Thanks for listening everyone ❤️
