A bicornuate uterus - did you get pregnant and carry full term?

Hi All,
I’m currently planning a pregnancy and recently did a gyno visit to discuss matters. During the scan doctor pointed out that my uterus are heart shaped (bicornuate uterus) opposed to normal. She then explains that I might struggle to get pregnant and will have a high risk of miscarriages and if I get pregnant potentially not carry full term.

Now we need to try for a year and if unsuccessful come back and will do further examination. There is a procedure that can be done to fix uterus.

Me being me have googled everything already and stressed myself out.

  1. Has anyone got pregnant naturally with a bicornuate uterus?
  2. I don’t understand why I would need to wait a year and potentially put myself through miscarriages, why not do the procedure now?

Please someone tell me that you have a positive experience? 😢

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi. My sister has the same. She managed to carry both her babies to full term. She had cesarean sections for both.
I know another woman who I'm sure also has the same thing. She worried herself sick throughout her first pregnancy as the doctors alarmed her so much with the what-ifs, but she has also had two healthy children.
I hope this reassures you a bit.

P.S. all four babies were conceived naturally.

DGM had one. She had three full term pregnancies, no C-section (this was in the 1940s) and they were unaware that she had one until issues were found for my DAunt and they scanned her.

Yes, 5 DCs all conceived naturally. Births admittedly long and difficult labours due to babies being back to back- probably caused by uterus shape making it hard for baby to turn. However only 1/5 needed any intervention (forceps). I hope this reassures you somewhat. Good luck

Thank you all so much for reassuming stories.

I’m a bit panicking that I’ve long and painful road ahead but this gives me a bit of hope!

My doctor was so brutal it almost sounded that I have very low chances of a natural pregnancy. I was so shocked at at point barely asked any question.

@HayleeLee are you in the UK and was this NHS?

Springingintosummer · 03/09/2023 12:33

Yes to a heart shaped uterus. Only identified once pregnant. Delivered at term.

Bicornate uterus was discovered during c section with my eldest.

4 pregnancies, 3 children, one chemical miscarriage.

All were c sections, first one was thanks to a placental abruption at 37 weeks and was an emergency, the other 2 were my choice. There was a massive gap in age for a while. Eldest DD is 19, DS is 16 months, the chemical was when he was 4 months and DD is 13 weeks.

All conceived with no medical help, we saw fertility specialists when it didn't happen for a while after first DD, "unexplained secondary fertility" but never went through with the IVF. DS snuck in there during the pandemic, I work in fetal medicine and made the joke people weren't ɓsocially distancing as my caseload was huge.... then realised my boobs were huge.

The last 2 pregnancies (chemical and DD) I was on the desogestel pill so take f4om that what you will 😅.. (we only had sex twice after DS and despite being on the pill, I fell pregnant twice)

Don't give up hope OP ❤️ Sending positive thoughts and hugs your way 🤞
