Measuring 6 days behind on 1st scan

So I know I had a positive ovulation on clearblue on 31st July, my last period start date was 7th July, my CD was 35 it always ranges from 30-35. And my first faint positive test was 12th August. I went for an early private scan yesterday expecting to be 6w 6d at the earliest, due to cycle dates and they measured me at just 6w, baby had a heartbeat and they said was 4.63mm they were happy with the growth and heartbeat, and didn't seem worried. But I've had two previous miscarriages one at a little over 5 weeks and one which started around 6w 3d. I've got another scan booked in for 3 weeks time I'm just wondering is it possible for baby to catch up, like I said she didn't seem worried at all, but I'm guessing it sort of shocked me due to expecting to be later. I have read online it's hard to measure baby when they're so small.

I would try not to be too concerned at this point (easier said than done!) - my dates bobbed around for a couple of scans over a week discrepancy. Finally got a 'finalised' date after a 2nd 12 week nhs scan (as 1st one classed me as 11 weeks, so too early for official tests so I had to go back). So I ended up a week earlier than my period dates suggested.
I'm 39 weeks on Sunday, based on the nhs dates, I guess we will never know how accurate or not they were!

If you got your positive ovulation test on 31 july you probably ovulated 1 August. The way they calculate pregnancy is basically the day after your ovulation is '2 weeks pregnant' as they base dating off a standard 28 day cycle.

So if we work on the basis that you were 2 weeks on 2 August, then you should have been measuring 6w+1 yesterday when you had your scan so you're only measuring 1 day behind. That's nothing at all in early scans, as your talking about fractions of millimeters of difference between the days and it's impossible to get that amount of different on an ultrasound. In truth you may even be measuring ahead!

I know it's an anxious time but I promise those measurement are absolutely perfect :)

Hi
I was in a similar position to you when I had my 12 week scan..I was actually 11 weeks. Based on my own calculations though I was actually 10+3. I’ve had my 20 week scan this week and my baby is measuring behind. At first it threw me into panic too but I looked at the charts that are used and it’s literally millimetres. Also if I’m correct and I actually am slightly behind where the NHS have dated me my baby is measuring completely fine.

I think unless a major issue is flagged you kind have just have to take it with a pinch of salt. It’s one measuring system applied to all babies regardless of any other factors! My plan was to book in for a private scan in 4 weeks time but I’ve been called back for an NHS growth scan in 8 weeks so I’m just going to wait until then. Ultimately if at 4 weeks he’s still small there is nothing anyone at a private scan can do for me and the NHS will just tell me to wait until the date they booked in. I totally get why you would want to though it’s a very anxious time especially considering what you’ve been through.
