I'm curious. They generally say 2nd labours are quicker, but is this true if your first labour was a c section?

I had a really slow labour with waters breaking Fri and baby coming on Mon am.I got to 6 cm after being induced on the Sun am. but then needed an emcs due to baby not coping.

Now I'm 30 weeks with baby number 2 and I'm thinking about the labour.
Fingers crossed I can go naturally but will it be more like a 1st labour with regards duration?

Would love to hear experiences!

Don’t have any advice I’m afraid but I am wondering the same thing! It makes sense to me that as your body has already dilated before it might speed things up a bit, but total guess!! Can I ask if your midwife was supportive of a VBAC? Still early on and haven’t discussed yet so unsure whether I should expect to be encouraged to have another CS or not.

@CBClub Thanks for reply!

No, midwife seemed to have no view either way.

My consultant said that the safest option is a straightforwardly vaginal, followed by a planned c section followed by an emcs. So she advocates vaginal where appropriate.

I got the impression if I wanted a planned c section it would have been fully supported.

Hey @Alloveragain3 how did your vbac go x

Alloveragain3 · 18/04/2024 20:44

Thanks for checking in!

Unfortunately my labour wasn't progressing so it was another emcs. Glad I tried though and just happy that baby is here and well :)

Thanks for the update, I really needed to hear this today. I’m still waiting impatiently for baby to get moving… it’s reassuring you said you are glad you tried, I’ve been swaying a little on whether I should just let them book me for CS. You’ve inspired me to stick to the plan and attempt the VBAC, and reminded me that even if it doesn’t work out that’s ok too! Congratulations on baby!!

@CBClub Best of luck!
The doctor at my hospital was very observant of me and they weren't keen to take any risks, given the previous c section.
They did try small amounts of oxytocin to get my contractions stronger but when that wasn't working, they called it.
I'd have loved to have the vbac and did hypnobirthing, stayed mobile, avoided an epidural etc. but ultimately, labour wasn't progressing for me and that was that!

Baby is 5 months now and I still sometimes think of the natural birth that never was, as I think it would be something really special to experience (but maybe that's silly, I don't know!).
