Hi all

i was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good pram. I am just starting to look but am getting overwhelmed as they are so many to choose from. I walk a lot and also use buses and trains - we do also have a car. Not sure if we need to spend a fortune or if there are any good middle of the road options

thanks x

Hi,

so after extensive research and interviewing lots of mum friends the 2 that seem to come out tops are babyzen yo-yo- more like a stroller, great if you’re active and in and out of the house. Also can go onto the plane in the cabin. Or the egg, looks a bit fancier and more robust than the babyzen. Again people saying it’s easy to put up and down and get in and out of a car. Both of these are a bit pricey though x

@ChateauProvence I have the baby yoyo zen and the Bugaboo Fox 3. I am London based, so walk a lot and travel a lot, and we have a car. I loved the yoyo for when my daughter was 0-3 months for convenience but my massive issue with it is the jiggly wheels if you walk beyond the slowest walking pace possible. The wheels jiggle like a shopping trolley you would put back. It was annoying and perhaps not the comfiest for my baby girl. I moved her into the Fox 3 at 5 months and I haven't used the Yoyo since. She's now 6.5 months. I absolutely love the Fox 3... yes it's bigger in restaurants and shops, but not impossible. I would say the bassinet on the Fox is very big though. We have a mid size SUV and the Fox takes up so much room in the boot whereas the Yoyo is incredibly compact. The Yoyo has been fantastic to travel with but we have also checked the Fox in .... when she was tiny and we were travelling, being able to keep the yoyo with us the whole time meant she could sleep on the move which was excellent. Not sure if this is helpful as they both have pros and cons. I don't think I'll put her back in the yoyo until she is 18 months. Baby also HAS TO forward face when you move them into the 6+ on the yoyo and most I don't think are ready for that and it's super unsupportive whereas the Fox is so cosy and she naps amazingly in there. Lots to think about. I personally think the Bugaboo Fox slightly wins. X PS. Don't get me started on the difference in the storage underneath on these buggy's. Prepare to always pack very very light with the Yoyo!

I originally bought Ickle Bubba Moon Travel system and it was perfect as it was light, easy to fold and really good quality. I used it until my DD turned 14 months and then I bought Oyster 3 as my DD wants to sit very upright. If I was now to have a baby again I would definitely use Oyster 3 from the very beginning. Absolutely love it and I wish I had found it last year. You can tell it's of high quality and it's so light and easy to push. I only came across it as I saw lots of mothers pushing their babies in same looking prams/strollers so it seemed to be popular.

I love my yoyo! I've used it since birth and he'll be 9 months next week. I had no issues with forward facing him at 6 months, I actually think it was the perfect age as he was getting more interested in his surroundings and loves to have a nosey.

Are you planning any more children? We got an uppa baby vista when we had our second. Best pram ever. Amazing as a double or single. Easy to fold down. Very sturdy. Massive basket which is great for shopping.

I love my yo-yo and we had it since birth and still use it at 4.5 years old.

pbdr · 31/08/2023 20:29

I found I needed 2 buggies - a lightweight, compact fold travel stroller (baby zen yo-yo is a good option) and a big, robust all-terrain buggy with proper suspension (I have a Fox 2 which has been great, although the Fox 5 looks like it has a much better folding mechanism).
I choose the buggy I am using each day depending on what we are doing. If I'm just quickly nipping to the shopping centre I can throw the compact lightweight travel stroller into the boot with one hand while carrying my toddler on my other hip. If I'm going for a proper walk in the woods/ a country park without paved paths then the proper all-terrain buggy is much better.

I love our Yoyo. I don’t understand why anyone who relies on public transport would buy anything else. I was upset when I had to switch DS to forward facing (he was tiny so we made it beyond six months) but we both managed to adjust.

I have a cosatto giggle quad, absolutely love it. The designs are so pretty, really sturdy, easy to fold. Can’t complain about it at all

We have the bugaboo bee. It’s as nippy as the yoyo for public transport (doesn’t fold down as small but I’ve never needed to do that in London, and we don’t have a car so I take buses and the tube a lot!) but crucially you can swap it between rear and forward facing easily.

One of my kids loved forward facing but the other hated it, and would only nap in the pram with me singing to them (looking at them), so we’d have been totally screwed if we had the yoyo.

Thanks so much for the recommendations I am going to take a look at them all today!

We've had both the Yo-yo and the Bee and would agree with @Moancup - the yo-yo wins hands down (despite the downside of the small basket and forward facing). The Bee feels so clunky and big to some compared to the yo-yo, although I do like the big hood and the fact it reclines flat. If you use public transport a lot and you plan to have one pram throughout baby to toddlerhood I'd go with a yo-yo or similar. We are London based and I'm always having to carry it up and down steps in the tube but it's so light it's still manageable (with toddler in!).

I bought the full oyster 3 travel system. It’s really nice and easy to use. The car seat only lasts til I think around 12 months but baby is now 7 months and I recently changed to a spin car seat as he was just too heavy to use the car seat and him in it.

I love the oyster pram it is however fairly heavy and bulky so I’m looking at now getting a stroller or a compact pram especially to use for going abroad.

if I was to get another pram for a newborn I would get the one with the new car seat that also reclines they sell them in mamas and papas but look elsewhere as expensive there. They can also attach to a lot of prams and I found using the car seat attached onto the pram when baby was a newborn the easiest if I was just quickly popping into a shop etc. I also probably wouldn’t get a bulky pram. I would go for something like the joolz aer or whichever one you can connect a car seat and bassinet too as I think it would last longer going into a stroller and not needing to buy another one!

I’ve recently bought the Oyster 3 but swapped out the car seat in the bundle to the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix I think it’s called as it’s more lightweight and fits perfectly in my Fist 500 with Isofix.

I’ve not had baby yet but the Oyster folds up both with the seat attachment and the carry cot to fit in my relatively small boot. I think it’s really light weight compared to when I looked at the M&app Occaro and Silver across Dune.
