C section for breech baby

Hi everyone,

Wanted some advise from mammas that have had ELCS as baby was in breech position and mammas that have maybe had section without breech and breech for comparisons.

So general background, had 3rd degree tear with first, 2nd was normal birth, no major tearing. I opted for ELCS as I was given the option, didn't want to risk another 3rd degree, I am a bit older now and risk of incontinence etc, just thought it would go with an elective.

Had a check up yesterday and I'm 34 weeks, midwife says baby is in breech position. Looks like I would have needed ELCS anyway.

Read up on it a little and apparently an ELCS for breech is more complicated than a normal section? is this true? is it more painful? is the cut longer/deeper?

Getting very worried tbh. I doubt baby will change position now and I don't want the attempt at getting baby turned with the risks if I was already down for an elective anyway.

Anyone's experience with this would be really appreciated!

I had two elective sections. One was breech, one wasn’t. To be honest I didn’t notice a difference between them. Having said that I tried not to do too much research as I was very anxious so maybe if I’d been looking for a difference I might’ve imagined one.

in terms of cut / scar I didn’t notice a difference. I think my non breech scar took longer to heal. Other than that I was almost normal about four weeks after both - although I did takes things easy with both for six weeks.

I hope it works out for you op, overall my breech section was a good experience (and I was really scared beforehand)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it has made me feel better about it! 😊

I think I should just stop searching now, it's all I've been doing since I found out about the breech.

You'll be fine. I had 2 electives bc of breech presentation and one emergency section and the electives were much better!

thank you for your response 😊

I had an emergency c section due to baby turning breech. It was absolutely fine, 10 min and all was done, minimal bleeding etc. It took maybe 6 weeks to fully recover but I could still go about my day ok. 1 remember on week two I took baby in a sling and walked for about 2 hours outside. I had to take painkillers though. I would definitely opt out for elective next time around!

I also had a section due to breech, absolutely no issues whatsoever :)

My dd was breech. The midwife only realised at my last appointment before my due date - the bony bum that I thought I'd been patting turned out to be dd's head. I had a scan a couple of days later to confirm it.

I went into hospital the day after the scan. They tried turning dd but she was a stubborn little bugger and wouldn't move so I had to have a c-section instead.

The attempt at turning was very uncomfortable but the c-section was fine. Sore afterwards, especially the first time that they made me sit up, but nothing too bad.
