20 weeks and still being sick

I’m just over 20 weeks pregnant, due January 2024 and I’m still being sick, is anyone else the same?

I had terrible sickness week 7-14, had a couple of weeks of no sickness which I thought was the start of feeling better then it’s slowly crept back in again. On average sick 4/5 times a week - a lot more bearable than earlier on, but today omg! It’s like being back in the first trimester again, been sick 4 times already not even keeping water down I just don’t know what’s wrong with me!

Did anyone else still have sickness this late on? When did it stop it’s horrible and not sure how I’ll do another 20 weeks until baby is here!

So sorry OP, some people are sick until they give birth. I was horrendous from weeks 6-14 (lost over a stone and weighed less at my 16 week appointment than my 8 week!). Nausea gradually declined but food aversion stuck around until week 24.

Almost 28 weeks and finally at my pre-pregnancy weight again (so probably still a couple of kg less due to weight of baby etc). I don't throw up but I can't cook or be around cooking smells before midday or I gag and retch. I have to have premade cold food and give it a couple hours before I can be around anything smelly. I also still have some food aversions, particularly to certain meats that can make me gag and retch if I try to push through. I still have the odd day when the nausea comes back, but definitely no where near as bad as trimester 1.

Is there something particularly stressing you out today? Big meeting at work, 20 week scan etc coming up etc. Always gave me a patch of bad days.

I’m similar I was nauseous a lot in the first trimester so the doctor gave me anti sickness meds which did the trick (make me super drowsy though but better than sick)
I stopped taking them at 13 weeks and now I’m nearly 18 weeks and some days I’m still having to take them as the sickness is back - hopefully we’ll start to come out the other end of it over the next few weeks xx

I was still being sick at 20weeks, probably felt well enough to eat normally at 28 weeks but it did gradually improve from 23weeks. Good days/ bad days. Recommend ondansetron/advice from pregnancy sickness support/omeprazole be persistent with the GP it’s not a first line drug and expensive so they will want you to try the others that have large side effects. Although I would say that no drug was a miracle worker (annoyingly) and I found rest was just as important. I hope you feel better soon, it’s such a hard slog mentally and physically most people can’t understand how unwell you are.

I'm 31 weeks and still sick. Another recommendation for ondansetron. I have HG though. Have a read into it, hyperemisis gravidarum, there is a support thread on here too.

Nothing helps my sickness and nausea, I have accepted I will be like this until baby is here. I have had moments like you, "don't know how I can do this for the last so many weeks", you can do it. I honestly didn't think I would get this far with the ongoing sickness and nausea but I'm still here.

Hope it passes soon for you and will be worth every minute when we have our babies in our arms Smile

Sorry OP, I only stopped feeling sick after I had given birth to DD. I started MAT leave at the earliest possible date.

Wrongsideofpennines · 31/08/2023 22:22

I had nausea from 6-30 weeks. Then it came back at about 35 weeks but not quite as bad. Nobody was willing to prescribe meds this time apart from when I was in hospital and nil by mouth for theatre and they gave me an injection and it felt so amazing to not feel sick for those few hours. Thankfully I wasn't throwing up that much after about 20 weeks. It may be worth speaking to your GP/midwife/consultant though as there are meds that help. I've had success with cyclizine and ondansetron.

I’m afraid I was sick dozens of times every day - last time I was sick was as I was giving birth and then as soon as she was born, it had gone. Are you on anti sickness tablets? I didn’t think they had worked seeing as I was still sick so much until I ended up in hospital without them and it was even worse, so may be worth a try. Are they monitoring your flood levels as I ended up on a drip as I was so dehydrated so just be mindful of that.

I promise you can get through it. And it is worth it!

Devilsmommy · 31/08/2023 22:32

I was sick throughout whole pregnancy but I did have high blood pressure which I think made it worse

Coinicon · 01/09/2023 10:01

I could have written this! I’m 20 weeks and have been sick every day this week. Also feeling nauseous all day. It feels like I’m right back in the thick of symptoms 😩

ActDottie · 05/09/2023 17:27

Thanks everyone for your responses! It’s reassuring that others have been so sick past the first trimester too - although not fun!

Ive tried three different anti-sickness medications but none really worked but having been off work intermittently since Thursday I think it’s worth speaking to the GP again as I’m running out of sick leave! I’ll ask about ondansetron as that one sounds promising! I just want to feel a little bit more like myself and not have to spend my days lying down - only way I can make the sickness feel less bad :(

I was sick most of the way through my first pregnancy. Second and third were less bad. Chin up, it.doesn't last forever (it just feels like it!)
