Hi all

It's my second pregnancy. After my first scan midwife told me that I have low Papp a ... they recommend me aspirin 75mg

Is anyone had this experience??? Is this serious?? Is this effects baby growth???

Kindly share please

Do you know how low? Have they recommended anything else? I had low Papp-a in my first pregnancy and was offered additional growth scans in 28, 32 and 36 weeks. At 36 weeks they weren’t happy with the baby’s growth so I was induced. He was a little small, but he’s 12 now and completely fine. I was monitored closely in my second pregnancy but bloods and scans were fine and she was born a healthy weight at full term.

I’m sure there’s been lots of research done since my pregnancies but hopefully my story is a bit reassuring…scary at the time but ultimately fine.

I am 18 weeks with my first and have low PAPP-A so under a consultant. Same as above where I will have extra scans later on but the midwives don't seem too worried so I try not to be. Just take my aspirin every night and will see what they say at my next scan next week x

I had low Papp a. Although I didn’t find out until the consultant I had been referred to told me I needed to stop taking aspirin for the c section. I said what aspirin. They said oh for your low Papp a - well, don’t worry.

Baby did stop growing toward the end. Ended up moving from 25th to 3rd percentile for femur length. No one was too concerned as they were more concerned at that point that he was oblique.

Since being born some people say he’s a long baby, some say he’s a shorty. I am not particularly tall myself but my partner is. However he too was also tiny until 6th form (went from the shortest to the tallest over a summer).

So in summary - no idea if it was the Papp a or the COVID I got during the weeks his growth dropped, or that I am short. But he’s perfect. Everyone says so. A friend was glad when he pulled his hat off the other day because they just don’t believe he’s a real baby. He’s far too handsome and well behaved. A unicorn baby 🤣 Yes I know I am in for hell with the next one.

I had it with my first, born at 39 weeks (came naturally, no induction), nearly 8lbs, midwife said placenta looked great when it came out too.
theyll keep an eye on you with extra scans and if growth slows at the end might talk about induction, but don’t worry it’ll be fine I’m sure!

I am in the same position right now I posted the other day. Mine was 0.28 I’ve been put on 150mg of aspirin with extra scans. This is my 3rd pregnancy never had it with my first 2. I’m trying not to worry I have been just as sick as my last 2 but the tiredness is a lot worse this time. I’ve read a lot of positives stories so trying to focus on them!

I had low Papp-a and came here to search for people who may feel like I did when I first found out! I took my aspirin from 13 weeks and had the extra growth scans, there was a uterine artery Doppler scan which showed I had high pressure in those arteries and I may be at increased risk of preeclampsia. The consultant booked me in for an induction at 39 weeks as a precaution; I was planning on moving this back to 40 weeks but actually as I got to about 34 weeks my blood pressure started creeping up to 140/90 and I developed gestational hypertension (I didn’t need treatment just more frequent BP checks with the midwife and to check for protein in my urine) and I was quite uncomfortable with it. My growth scans were all fine baby was in 30th -13th percentile as we went along (don’t stress about the differences they can be out by quite a margin between sonographers). Little one arrived via c section after a few days of trying the induction process; he was 6lb 11oz (which was exactly what my last sonographer predicted at my final scan!!). Low Papp-a is all about managing risk, it doesn’t mean anything’s wrong it’s just a sign that you and baby could benefit from extra monitoring (it also gets you fast tracked through MAU and into delivery suite and theatre - so see it as the priority service!)
