I had suspected GD in first pregnancy 4 years ago, however was never tested due to no risk factors.

This time I passed it with flying colours earlier on in pregnancy but have just failed it today at 8.2 at 2 hours (threshold is 7.8)

I know how to manage it but my biggest fear is covid. Covid + pregnancy + GD + weight gain from pregnancy seems like a lethal
combo and I hope I’m just catastrophizing.

Has anyone else in this situation had covid? I had it in 2022 but I was a normal weight, not pregnant, and didn’t have GD!! Plus I was triple vaccinated. Was very mild.

I'm currently 38 weeks (first baby), diagnosed with GDM but this has been very well controlled with diet.
Local hospital policy is that I am induced at 40 weeks.

I was just wondering about people's experiences of length of hospital stay. I'm a nurse but used to work in the hospital I'll be delivering at and went through a really rough time while working there during COVID which I definitely feel like has given me some mild PTSD about being in hospital. I am so anxious about having to stop in and feels like it's stopping me from enjoying the last weeks of pregnancy

Thankyou everyone x

You can get the covid Jab, I was pregnant in 2021 and was diagnosed as GD at 26 weeks. I was also worried about covid so got the covid jab

its now recommended that all pregnant women have the covid jab.

also you wont gain weight if you follow GD diet, you will loose weight due to healthy eating.

LittleMrsPretty · 01/10/2023 23:51

@Beckykw286 I had a planned C section in 2021 and was allowed home after 24 hours. My GD went as soon as baby was delivered.

@Beckykw286 i was diagnosed at 37 weeks in my first pregnancy and remained perfectly diet controlled. Induced at 40+6.

Unfortunately as is often the case with induction, it can take time. If I recall right, I was in for about 3-4 days in total.

In any case I think they like to keep baby in for 24 hours if you have GD so they can check their glucose is ok.

@LittleMrsPretty lol, you’d think.

I actually lost 5 stone after my first by just continuing to eat very low carb, but I’ve been on a GD diet for 4 weeks now at 31 weeks pregnant and I haven’t lost a single pound. Haven’t gained either, mind you.

@Beckykw286 you should speak to the the team about your concerns.

For me, the GD diagnosis itself totally ruined the last few weeks of my pregnancy 😥I actually remember using those exact words to the diabetic midwives.

i hope you find a manageable solution xx

@Maybemaybenot76 not gaining when pregnant is loosing weight as you are growing a baby.

weigh yourself after birth and you will lower than bEfore pregnancy

Maybemaybenot76 · 02/10/2023 19:12

@LittleMrsPretty i wish! Sorry, I wasn’t very clear with what I meant. I’ve already gained a tonne of weight in this pregnancy, 12kg so almost 2 stone. Yet, none of it has shifted in a month despite a drastic change to GD diet. I’ve guessed my body is just holding on to it for dear life and it will start to drop off once the baby is here.

Hi,

I had GDM during 2nd pregnancy and got Covid at 7 months. I was ill with cold like symptoms but nothing major just a couple days resting up and a week or so feeling more tired than normal.

Baby born at 8lb 15 at 39+3 via planned section. I opted for section due to having a pre term emergency section at 32 weeks with 1st baby (not related to GDM).

For reference I weighed around 20 stone during 2nd pregnancy

I had to stay in 4 days but unrelated to the GDM.

From diabetes perspective baby and I were both clear to go after 24 hours but an unrelated issue kept us in.

My friend with GDM had her baby around 6 months ago via section, discharged after 24 hours

I had Covid at 17 weeks. I was unvaccinated (still am) as I didn't want to be vaccinated in pregnancy. It was milder than a common cold (and again after I gave birth). My gestational diabetes was diet controlled. I wasn't overweight (family history of GD so genetic for me!)

Blueskiesforecast · 02/10/2023 20:49

Obviously there are very limited studies but I did read that ‘pregnant women who were hospitalised with covid were unvaccinated’. So vaccines plus previous infection should protect you. Maybe you have the booster by now anyway!
