Who can I ask for general pregnancy questions

It would help me if I could ask general questions to a midwife but I don't have her number.

Community midwife's still haven't returned my call regarding increased waters (private scan).

I was reading some notes and they said if you have chest pain to call triage - and every time I have done I was told to call primary doctor (was usually out of hours).

So I'm a little lost what I'm supposed to do.....

I just have questions about sickness, sore stomach, timeline of appointments etc.

Just to be clear I'm under perintal as I have existing mental health concerns and no support.

I can Google/ask here for answers, but I kinda wanted some sort of actual medical reassurance.

How far gone are you? Have you had your booking-in appointment?

Sorry to hear about your chest pain. Did you call your primary doctor as suggested?

How many weeks are you? It changes who you speak to dependent on the gestation you are.

Pre 24 weeks here it's the GP but generally find they aren't interested in pregnant women.

Post 24 weeks it's the antenatal assessment unit if urgent, community midwife if not urgent at your next appointment.

I get told to constantly see my Gp unless mental health is a bit of - call perinatal who won't see me for another five weeks..... to discuss my birth plan.... which is already trying to be discussed with normal midwife, consultant and now perinatal.

Sometimes I just want help with being pregnant.....

If you’re 26 weeks, when’s your next appointment? X

But in that case have you not just had a 26 week appointment- have all the things come up since that appointment?

I think if you’re really worried about chest pain you should just go in to maternity triage. Xx

Often the hospital website has a list of when your appointments should be- or it’s in your paper notes if you have them (some places don’t any more).

If you’re not getting any joy, I would write a list of all your questions (like definite questions that people can give a reasonable answer to like ‘I get pain in XYZ place, is this normal or concerning’ etc) and when you go to triage, get as many answers as you can - alternatively you can contact the matron in charge of outpatients and they should be able to help get someone to properly answer things. I’m sorry you feel so on your own with things.

Hi,

i saw my community midwife today- I’m 21 weeks. She told me that if I have non urgency questions to text or call her directly. Anything urgency you call straight through to antenatal at the hospital. I was given a sheet with all the numbers on for the hospital so maybe have a look on the website.

I have tended to use both. For things I think are ‘silly’ I’ve contacted my midwife but when I was actually worried such as loss of movement I went straight to call the hospital

if you’re having no luck with the community midwife maybe try the gp and ask if you can see a different one?
