Desperately need a T section! All my books seem to say it's ok, as does Toni & Guy on the basis that they use vegetable dyes but is it definitely not going to harm the baby? I'm 34 weeks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have my hair done at the college I attend (it's cheap, they are well supervised and they do a good job) and the tutor there said it was ok as well for the same reasons I admit I haven't as yet although I am probably going to have it done soon as I have 4 inch roots I was going to do it my self just before Christmas but had just found out I was pregnant and as this was a but un expected decided not to risk doing it right then. Thankfully mine was died red so it has faded and does not look too bad.

yes

with highlights the chemicals do not touch your scalp

I agree best avoided in 1st trimester even so - hair dyes do have nasty stuff in them

TrinityRhino · 01/03/2008 08:34

Yes totally fine
I have had my hair completely bleached more than once through all three of my pregnancies

FrannyandZooey · 01/03/2008 08:37

with respect, people saying that they have done it, doesn't prove that it is ok to do so

The research - on balance - does suggest it's fine to colour hair (highlights or full-colour) throughout the pregnancy (I work with scientists so I'm not just going on anecdotal evidence). There's really no scientific evidence to suggest even all-over (scalp-touching) colour in first 12 weeks has any negative effects on foetal develpment. The only 'danger' I'm told is that the colour can come out a different shade from what it normally does (so have a strand test). Happy colouring!
