I'm already planning another baby!
Ds was born in November, I would like the next baby to be born between Sept and Jan so planning to start TTC around Christmas.

Just wondering if this is common or did you instead try for a summer baby? Or were you just happy to be pregnant regardless of due date?

why would you want to plan it so all the birthdays are close to one another - sounds expensive!!

nappyaddict · 03/03/2008 02:07

i like the sound of an april/may/beginning of june baby.

We also 'planned' this in as much as we waited to try until January. Luckily we conceived straight away (although this is my first pregnancy, so who knows how it will go...) My husband was a september baby and it seems like an advantage (at least early on). Of course if we hadn't conceived quickly, we would have kept trying until we did, regardless of the school year!

I'm a late August baby and loved the feeling of having a year in hand. Plus did well academically. I was talking to someone a couple of nights ago who said that she worried about her october girl (now all of four months old) being bored at school, so that's another way of looking at it.
Having said all that, I'm worried about my due in late July/early August baby and for that reason am poss hoping it's a girl as I think it's less of a disadvantage for them.
But as everyone says, all a blessing and totally unplannable.

I can completely understand the sep-dec birthday thing. Whilst I understand that getting pg at all is a blessing I can see no harm in aiming for this window when you start ttc if its important to you. Not saying Sept-Dec is best, I always liked having a spring birthday myself, more that I can see the downsides of August birthdays. Not only do they start school very young (which is not a problem for all kids but is for some), they have a academic disadvantage in the first year or 2 and there are some social consquences to summer holiday birthdays. For example, not having many friends around to celebrate your birthday with you as everyone is on holiday!! Its not just when your younger it also effects older "kids",for example, a good friend of mine wasn't allowed to watch 15 movies till she was 15 so wasn't always allowed to come to the cinema with us so would get left out or in our A level years when most of us were legal to drink but the younger ones were regularly refused entry to pubs and def could not go clubbing with everyone else!! Some people may not care about any of that and if you are struggling ttc I can see it would be the last thing on your mind but I can see why some people may want to avoid August birthdays.

Having said all that, of course these are superficial things that can always be got round, I am not sure I am going to worry to much myself but people influence birth dates for less reasons, so if it matters to them I can't see the harm in it!

didn't read the entire thread but just to say to sweetkitty - I was a January baby in Scotland and top of the class pretty much all through school (until I discovered some teenage vices anyway) .

We didn't deliberately set out to have a September baby, but when dd's due date turned out to be the 8th September, and I was having a planned caesarean, one of the reasons I was adamant that it wasn't done at 38 weeks was so she wasn't born in August and would be the youngest at school.

I did spend the last couple of weeks before thinking it'll teach me if she decided to turn up early .

Dh is a September birthday, and felt it did give him some advantages at school.
