How are your little ones now they’re here?

I’m 13 weeks pregnant with a little boy, and I’ve just caught Covid for the first time. Absolutely gutted to have caught it, but on the whole not feeling too bad and symptoms are clearing up after about 3 days.

My worry is for the baby. I’ve read the recent 2023 studies that have shown that babies born to mothers who caught covid whilst pregnant have double the risk of neuro issues (autism, adhd, delays…). This was picked up at their one year checks, but obviously the scale of the issues will play out over the longer term. (The study does say that the majority of babies are seemingly okay, but double the risk vs. Babies who weren’t exposed to covid in utero is a bit alarming.)

Would love to hear from other mums who have been in my shoes, and how everything turned out?

thank you

I had Covid twice during my pregnancy (second and third trimester) and my 6 month old seems to be doing great. The midwives had no concerns when I called to check despite me feeling very poorly, especially the second time

Hey! I got covid at 38 weeks and was induced a few days later (this was practice in my Maternity unit as there were fears of placenta becoming harmed from the virus). My little boy is just 20 months old, and is doing perfectly fine, has reached all milestones talking away and running around. It is so worrying I remember being terrified for what may come, but it’s not all doom and gloom, try to stay positive and look after yourself as best you can. Will your maternity unit induce at 37 weeks? This was (unsure if still is) the practice in my unit if you had covid during pregnancy. I should note, my sister had covid at 6ish months with her little girl who has turned 3. She was slower to walk and talk however this was put down to being overshadowed by an older sibling and is doing great also xx

My trust aren’t bothered about covid anymore, people generally don’t test for it anymore and I imagine lots of women have it without even knowing. I would imagine if there were dangers to the baby then precautions would still be in place and midwives would be telling expectant mothers. Try not to worry about it
