Fear of early miscarriage

Hi, don't know if anyone can help me with this... Just found myself 4 weeks pregnant. I'm 40, and this's my second baby. dd is already 5, and my pregnancy with her was very smooth, so didn't have much experience. Anyway, we decided to have a second last year, however had a early miscarriage last August at week 7 and another miscarriage in this January at week 5. I'm so happy to found that I'm pregnant again, however two early miscarriages experience brings me really bad anxiety. Now I'm so stressed every time when I go to toilet and worried to death I might see blood on my pants... don't know if there's any way can ease my fears of miscarriage. Or if NHS offers any early pregnancy checkup before week 12 or if there's any checkups I can take privately to give me some peace of mind? I feel I just can't keep doing it for the next 8 weeks...😭

You can usually get a private early scan to ease your worries. I would wait until you're around 7 weeks as it can be difficult to see a heartbeat before then and can cause even more unnecessary worry. Of course things can still happen after seeing a heartbeat but the chance of miscarriage drops dramatically after that to around 4 % and reduces further as each week goes by. I had a scan at 7 weeks and I've booked one for 10 weeks as there's no way I could wait until my 12 week scan!

Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope it all goes smoothy 🙂

It's such an anxious time, isn't it! Unfortunately there's nothing on the NHS.

We went for an early scan at 9 weeks, but ultimately only getting past 12 weeks allowed my anxiety to settle. It was lovely to see baby at 9 weeks, and definitely helpful to have a picture to look at when feeling super nauseous(!) but I still had a ton of what ifs.

datayze.com/miscarriage-chart - this was slightly helpful in terms of seeing the risk reduce, but ultimately I knew there was always a possibility.

I understand the anxiety OP. It's such a stressful time.
I had bleeding at 5 weeks that continued on for weeks; every time I would go to the toilet I was so scared in case I would see blood again.

I went private and attended weekly scans until about 15 weeks, honestly looking back it was madness. I don't think it eased any anxiety either.

The only thing I can advise is be gentle with yourself, try to talk into calming yourself when you feel extra anxious. Distract yourself as much as you can, and just convince yourself that this baby is completely different to previous pregnancies.

@Alice0703 I can totally relate with your anxiety and know exactly how you feel. I am 42, had an mmc at 8 weeks in May after seeing a healthy heartbeat at 6+6 and found out I was pregnant again in July. I am now 9 weeks and the anxiety is through the roof as my mind can only imagine that this is going to end badly. At week 7 my symptoms stopped all of a sudden and called the midwife in panic. Although she said that this can happen in a healthy pregnancy, she referred me to the EPAU bearing in mind my past experience of mc. They have been very good and had a scan when I was 8+2 weeks and seeing how distressed I was, they offered me another scan for 10 weeks.
If you want to do a scan I would suggest you wait well into your 8th week as this is the danger zone.
Unfortunately I can't help you with the anxiety as I haven't found anything that helps for me. We have to hope for the best.

Hey Hun, I had one missed miscarriage at 14 weeks in January. As soon as I fell pregnant my GP referred me to egu in hospital to have an early scan at around 6 weeks x
