Hi everyone, not sure how many responses I’m going to get but I’ve been diagnosed with new hyperthyroidism secondary to Graves’ disease at 25 weeks pregnant. Wasnt aware of any issues beforehand. Been put on 10mg Carbimazole to start and had my 3rd lot of bloods done before my joint clinic with endocrinology and antenatal. Really worried about the outcomes of this pregnancy and just wanted some advice really on previous experiences and what happens after birth with baby as far as monitoring etc..

Remember that Graves is an autoimmune disease, so anything that you can do to reduce both physiological and psychological stress will help reduce the inflammation.

Cut down on processed food, gluten, dairy, etc and eat lots of wholefoods, fruit, veg, etc (a gluten free Mediterranean diet is a good thing to look into) swap milk chocolate with dark, crisps with nuts, simple things can make a difference.

Exercise gently and take time out every day for relaxation and self care. Things like breathing exercises, yoga and meditation are good.

If you're not already, take a vitamin d supplement as people with autoimmune conditions often are deficient in vitamin d. Also omega 3 fish oils are good for reducing inflammation (and also good for baby's developing brain!) I also take a probiotic tablet to look after my gut health and I have inulin (a prebiotic) also that I add to my breakfast.

This is a lot to take in all at once! Try to make small changes. It's more difficult as you're pregnant. I know that my chocolate cravings are through the roof!
