Hi, I'm 12 weeks pregnant and got a blood monitor at my scan the other day to check my bloods as I had GD in a previous pregnancy.

So far my fasting bloods are too high, around 6/7 rather than 5.4<

Trying to get them under control as the nausea was making me want more carbs than usual, the first morning I had cheese and toast and 1h after it was 10.4 2h after 8.4, then this morning I had a small bowl of porridge and 1h after was 11.2 then 2h after was 9.9.

I'm freaking out a bit, if these were high from conception could I have done damage to the baby? Birth or heart defects?

Will I have to cut carbs out completely with these levels?

Check out GD uk website and Facebook group, lots of very helpful info. You can’t cut out carbs completely as you’ll get ketones which are just as bad. You need to focus on lots of protein and fat and a small serving of carbs like whole meal pasta/bread etc. It’s all individual what you can tolerate. I am 5 weeks and have developed GD straight away this time as had it in my last pregnancy. It’s hard but doable to follow the diet. Fasting levels are hormonal so you may need medication for them, I need insulin to control mine.
