Good morning all, I have been looking online to try and answer this question but I can't find it. My wife we think is about 6w 0d pregnant and she has an early viability scan next week. She has had no symptoms of miscarriage and continues to have pregnancy symptoms. Does anyone know likely it is to have sad news at one of these early scans? Thank you for your help.

It's absolutely impossible to say. I'm sure there is more chance of a good outcome than bad, but there are very sadly people who go to their first scan to bad news. They are, of course, in the minority, though. With both of my early scans, baby was fine and I have two little rascals climbing over me right now.

Good luck for your scan, I hope it goes okay Flowers

Thank you both. I guess there might be a 10-20% chance of bad news then?

I would say a 90% chance that it will be a happy experience, possibly more. Many of those who miscarry would already have done so before 6 weeks, and she's not had any bleeding I assume? The rate of missed miscarriage, where there are no signs, is much lower. I think she's likely to have a positive experience.

I think it's something like 1/4 pregnancies are a miscarriage- so 75% chance of a baby!

My first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage: I saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks and it stopped at 9. This isn't very common, only 5% of pregnancies or something.
