Posteria placenta covering os

Hiya 😊

So I went for my 20 week scan yesterday and baby girl is growing lovely and is healthy which is amazing 💖 however I had to have an internal scan and the midwife did mention that my placenta was 'low lying' and to go back at 32 weeks for another scan to see if it has moved. That is all that was said on that subject. So when I got home I had a look through my notes and it says that I have a posteria placenta and that it is completely covering my cervix. So I obviously did some googling and absolutely terrified myself reading about women who have had severe bleeds from 20 weeks onwards and being admitted to hospital multiple times, not being able to lift or have sex, being put on bed rest.

I work in a nursing home as a HCA which is a heavy job and now I'm scared that I'm going to be putting my body through too much and will maybe cause a bleed or something? I don't know I'm just worried and confused as to why the midwife really didn't mention anything at all about these things.

Has anyone been through the same and can maybe put my mind at ease abit haha

Hi OP and congratulations ☺️
Same happened with me at my 20 week scan and was rescanned at 32 weeks - it was still partially covering my cervix at this point and was told that it was very unlikely to move between then and due date. I was rescanned again at 36 weeks and of course, it hadn’t budged! I had a tiny tiny bleed at 16 weeks but absolutely nothing after that.
I was booked in for an elective c-section at 37+6 and I can honestly say, I much preferred the c-section than my previous natural birth!
A very high number of women with low lying placentas at 20 weeks have it move by the time they go for another scan at 32 weeks. Hopefully it goes smoothly for you but don’t worry about it too much, hope this has helped a little bit ☺️

Hi Emma 😊 thankyou for your reply, I'm glad to hear that you didn't have many complications! I was hoping to opt for an elective C-section anyway so that part isn't too bad. It was just all the stories I'd read about bleeding and being admitted to hospital countless times that put the fear of god in me, especially because the midwife mentioned absolutely nothing about the possibility of bleeding. I'm literally the biggest worrier EVER I have been known to sit googling and crying over the smallest of things in the past haha! I'm my own worst enemy. Xx
