Is it possible to do an ETC after around 7 years of finishing a PGCE? Or do I have to do it straight away?

I don't think there's a time limit but you'd absolutely mad to plan it this way.

You'd also have to find a school willing to give you a job so long after training.

You would have to double check but when I was an NQT you only had so many years to complete your NQT year so just be careful and check it out! I'd also echo the comment above and think why you'd do it this way, the best practice is being in the classroom on your own it's totally different to your PGCE and honestly I felt like I actually learnt how to be a teacher in my NQT year not PGCE!

There is no longer a time limit, but I’d echo the PPs - my ECT years were where I did most of my learning. A 7 year gap after a really intensive 9 month course is just likely to cause you to forget much of what you learned doing the course. Could you do the PGCE later?

@MaariaT
Are you sure this is in the right section ?

Reads to be as if your post would be better of in an education or career section, not pregnancy

ECT

What are you going to be doing for 7 years? I’d wait and do the PGCE after that.

You’ve made a few threads now on this same topic.

The consensus has been that you should get your training done first. That you should also really decide if teaching is what you want to do as well.

It’s ok to change your mind. I was all set to do a PGCE and at the last moment I just knew it wasn’t for me. It’s a decision I don’t regret at all.
