32 week growth scan, drop in percentile

Hello. Just looking for some reassurance.

I had a growth scan at 28 weeks, all good, baby at 74th percentile.

Went back at 32 weeks and baby has now dropped to 36th percentile although the measurements are spot on if not a bit bigger for a baby at 32 weeks.

I have to go back in 2 weeks. Should I be overly concerned? I've been told to keep an eye on movements in that time but I am of course a bit worried now and I googled (I know bad idea) and that's obviously made me more anxious.

If in 2 weeks the baby percentiles has dropped more then they will look to induce me at 37 weeks.

Any reassurance, advice or people's experiences would be greatly appreciated Flowers

My experience is of having a very small baby all the way through, but one thing to bear in mind is that the scans aren't completely accurate - they're trying to measure small things through you! So the drop could easily be much smaller than your measurements suggest.

My baby was induced at 37 weeks (actually just before) due to her size. The induction did fail, leading to a section, but she was fine, and I made a quick recovery. I'd already had one section, so I was always more likely to end up with another anyway.

I wouldn't be too concerned, I think the realistic worst case scenario is that you'll be induced at 37 weeks, which is full term, there's no reason why you and baby won't be fine. Induction does raise the risk of a section, but that is a very safe operation for both you and baby.

The most likely scenario is probably that you'll go back in two weeks and find babies growth is fine! In the meantime, I'm sure they've already told you this, but do go in straight away if you have reduced movements at any point.

Firstly congratulations! I had something similar recently except baby went from the 50th centile to below the 10th. I was have reoccurring scans every two weeks and was being monitored closely. Baby did arrive early so I never got my final scan. Dc was born on the 5th centile and a decent weight for gestation all things considered. We've had our ups and downs since birth and baby is currently on the 14th centile but had dropped to the second.

Took longer than expected for baby to regain birth weight and start putting weight on. I currently have a little chunker in the making. Getting wrist rolls and thigh rolls.

These scans are so sensitive. Even a measurement off by 1mm can show wildly different results. Also, there's on average a +/- 20% accuracy rate when looking at weight, length etc.

As long as baby has decent vitals, is more or less staying on their curve all should be fine. To get a decent idea of whats happening with baby you need at least 3 scans to start forming a picture.

They start to get worried once baby begins to fall below the 10th centile and 5 and below is IUGR.

keep a kick count going a d if for any reason something doesn't feel right go and get seen ASAP.
