Reassurance needed - Low lying placenta at 12 weeks after two miscarriages, aged 37

Hi all, pregnant again!!! after two unsuccessful pregnancies (mis at 16 w - embryo died at 11w, other one at 9.5 w). Both D&C. Doc says low lying placenta at the moment and placenta previa may be on the cards, incl caesarean. usually they move, don't they?

Was so hoping for an uneventful pregnancy for a change (usually very sporty, active, non smoking) Am aged 37 which may no help, though. Now had to give up stressful but rewarding job, career now ended; am mostly lying flat and worrying about babe . Bum getting big and flabby.

Hubbby working hard, so on top of this I feel guilty for not contributing and not doing housework either. Hubby very sweet and supportive, luckily money not a huge worry, but feel letting him down.

Very happy about getting pregnant again , but soooo worried about it all. Have no relatives here, friends working, and mum died just 6 weeks ago . Any experience and success stories out there?

most of them move up, don't worry let your hubby spoil you

Hiya Wild, Congrats on your pregnancy!
I'm 36. I have a low lying placenta and i am 29 weeks. I am having a scan at 36 weeks to see if its moved but other than that no one seems to think its a worry or unusual. I was told a very high percentage of them do move as they move up with your uterus.
Very sorry about your mum.
Oh and my bum is def big and flabby now, i measured bump today ooooo excited grown 2 inches. Then i measured thigh - also grown 2 inches .

I had placenta previa in 2nd pg. At my 12-wk scan in my 3rd pg I was desperate to know where the placenta was. They wouldn't even give me a rough idea - said it was too early and pointless to guess where it would end up, from what you could see at 12 weeks.

I had a low placenta that did stay low - was scheduled for a scan at 34 weeks but started bleeding at 32, went into hospital for a few days then another bleed at 35 weeks, dd delivered by c-section at 37 weeks. All handled very well by the hospital.
I know it's easy for me to say but try not to worry - most low placentas will move up and even if it is low by the time you get towards the end of your pregnancy it doesn't always mean a section is necessary.
I was 37 too when i had my dd (first and only) and i'd had a missed m/c couple of years earlier and needed a d&c. Doc said that a possible cause of placenta previa is previous 'womb trauma' so maybe the d&c had something to do with it?

Yes they do usually move. But in any case, the fact that it has been picked up this early means it will be closely monitored and in the last months of pregnancy you'll get extra scans to make sure it's out the way.

I know this may sound trite but you have gone through all the really dangerous bits already - from this point on it should get easier and less stressful!

I reckon each pregnancy has one big drama (at least mine do) with DD it was premature labour at 24 weeks (she didn't actually come out till near 44 weeks in the end ). This pregnancy, I've just (today) got amnio results having had a triple test scare. So you see, everything pregnancy has something which will worry you.

I've lost two too, and you don't ever really stop worrying entirely but you do get to a point where you can just keep the worry down to a manageable level so you can enjoy your pregnancy and then in a few months more - the baby.

Thank you all lovely ladies for sharing your experiences - really reassured me!

Breathing easier now and wishing everybody the very best with their pregnancies and babies.

Seems it hardly ever goes as shown in all the glossy magazines - super sporty mums with no stretchmarks, easy pregnancies, no problems and babies who sleep through the night.

Back to lying on sofa now. Next scan Tuesday, whatever happens... Hope we get a wee spud in 5-6 months so he/she can grow up with doggies in countryside. Dreaming...

Thanks again from NI
