When is a ECS instead of VBAC booked?

First pregnancy I was induced for being overdue and then was advised to have a non-elective CS because I'd stalled and wasn't progressing so the consultant thought labour was taking too long.

This time round I'm being pushed to have an ECS. The VBAC consultant is being very negative about my chances of VBAC since my last labour took a long time and stalled. I want a trial of labour so want to give myself as long as possible to go into labour.

When are ECS usually booked? I'm worried I'll be pushed to book one at 37 weeks and never have chance to go into labour when I could have had a successful labour. Can I book one at 40 weeks or after 40 weeks?

39 weeks typically!

Mine is at 39+2 (bang on 39 weeks is a Saturday for me) It’s rare to be before 39 weeks unless there’s a medical need for it to be earlier than that.

I was booked for induction for a vbac at 40 weeks ( was only allowed a balloon catheter). Unfortunately this didn't work so they booked a elcs in for 40+6.

If you want to have a VBAC but would prefer C-section over induction you can say that. So whenever they would normally book you in for induction, at 41+5 in my trust, they instead book a c- section.

What I would say though is that hospitals are usually very gung ho about VBACs. If they are not for you then I would take care going against their advice. As a minimum I would ask how likely they expect a successful labour to be. There is no point in putting yourself through a load of pain if your odds are tiny.

You can book it up to 41+5 if you want to give yourself the best chance of spontaneous labour, as long as there aren't other risk factors.

Sounds like my birth with my first was very similar to yours little progression and very slow! Midwife said I could book an elective for 41 weeks as I said I didn’t want to be induced. I don’t think they want you going too far over due date due to increased risks.
